Isn't he still officially under contract with us at least for a few more weeks?

Presumably he can't sign for Ipswich of anyone until that's up. The idea of him having a medical and doing a deal this week sounds more than fishy. Unless we are getting a nominal fee.

I think they're free to negotiate with other clubs with a certain amount of time left on their contract.

So there's no loss of income. Not a big deal to top players but I'd guess it helps those in the lower leagues.

True, but he isn't going to sign, as the reports have suggested.

For us, agree, for someone else, I'd say highly likely

yep

and given the rumour talks about an undisclosed fee being agreed, it would suggest said rumour is bollocks

We signed Pratley from Swansea in similar circumstances so cannot reasonably complain if he goes but the Bosman ruling is a right pain in the arse.

Which we milked very successfully

what happened before bosman?

from memory, in this country, so long as you offered no worse than equal terms, you could get a transfer fee

in pratleys case, id think we'd be offering a lesser deal than his current one, so even pre-Bosman, we'd have got nowt

I can't remember as it was about 20 years ago, but when a players contract ran down to zero, could the club who held his registration still demand some sort of transfer fee, and thus would go to a tribunal if one couldn't be agreed on?  -  that mihght of course be based on what Cassie says, whereby you would have to ffer a contract on a minimum of equal terms to the one that had just expired

I do remember Steve McMananananaman was probably the first "big" british player to move on one when he left Liverpool for Real Madrid, I think he became not far off the highest paid player in the world at the time

yeah, there had to be a transfer fee still for out of contract players, or the player couldn't leave unless the club said so

bosman argued that once his contract had expired, he should be free to move to another club of his choosing

it pretty much  meant the end for Ajax's academy as all of a sudden, they were losing players like Kluivert for nowt and couldn't rely on fees for their players anymore

was at the same time they decided to scrap the 3 foreigners rule as well, and you could field as many as you like

I'd quite like that rule to come back, it won't of course, but it would be good and even things up a bit (which is why it won't happen)

And the funny thing is the one player who it was bad for was bosman himself as it was 90 when he kicked off when he was 25 and by time it was official in 95 he was 30 and hadn't played for 5 years with his best days behind him

Something must be happening re financial support.

Otherwise NL won't be sticking around.....

Didn't we spend time booing Pratley at friendlies

About 10-20 people did against Crewe.

So he'd walk out of a job he's yet to prove himself in for what?

Remember he was looking for a job in England for a while and we were the only club to give him a chance. Why would that have changed now? He's here because we are probably his only choice right now.

From 1981 until 1995 a player with an expired contract could move to a club of his choice with a fee being set by an independent tribunal.

they are probably the ones kicking off about him going.

As traf has mentioned of he wants to go fine, we carry on, but some of our lot need a wobble, maybe players don't remain loyal because of how we treat players.

I tend to agree, I don't know why people think that there would be loads of clubs queueing up to offer Lennon a job. His record with us, thus far, has been average at best in reality

Blaming our own fans for players moving on for more money? don't even think those coming out with it believe that.

I'm not blaming the fans,

Merely making a point that some are horrified he could be leaving are probably the same who continuously have a pop. There might actually be players out there that care and would stick around for the right money or less if the club is a good place to play.

All I am saying is if we treat right we might get treated right ourselves

Those who move on for better financial gains, fine no problem good luck and thanks, but let's do it with some grace

I know what you mean but I would be surprised if that was a driver. I'm sure the 4k singing his name at huddersfield will be a more poignant memory.

I know what you mean though. I also wondered the season before with elmander at Rochdale the season before.

Back on topic has any source confirmed pratley is going. Just seems to be that LOV site atm?

I'd imagine Ipswich are offering very similar money if not less but a longer term id imagine that's a priority for prats at his age

Would say that's pretty much spot on. Hit 30 so 2 years max.
