Seoul, the capital of South Korea and containing half of that country's population, is only 30 miles from the border with North Korea.

 

Of course American bombs are always accurate so the 25 million residents of Seoul would have no worries.

 

The problem is dealing with an egotistical maniac leader - which both sides face.

 I think the issue is that upon the first US strike, they (NK) launch all manner of small conventional poundage into SK, from multiple sites. When the dust settles  a few hours later you've taken out all their nuclear facilities, wiped out the top brass etc - but how much damage has been done to the South before you get to that stage?

Probably the key ideology of the North Koreans is self sufficiency, a philosophy they call Juche, so most of what they have is self developed.

 

Folk are starving because the regime spends its resources on the military rather than the general welfare of the population.

 

At the time of the Korean War the south was the backward & undeveloped part of the peninsula with the country's industry concentrated in the north. However the post War split with 60+ years of crackpot Stalinist economics versus capitalism has changed this around.
