    Get over it

  • The way they played tonight they wouldn't   They took their only outlet off after 70 mins and put another centre half on ffs. They even had 2 left backs on.   We can all over analyse that tonight

I'm not arsed about finishing 2nd, we're not playing any duffers in the knock outs whichever way we go. We are still and always will be better than Wales and we were also never going to win the tournament either.

We've got some good young lads who won't even be at their peak next time around let alone now

Dyer seemed to be getting the plaudits can't remember him putting that many passes forward

Wales played 3 games mainly on the counter attack with the worlds most expensive player in their ranks.

they played in the same group and scored 6 goals FFS

Bale or not, we're just not clinical enough

2 top scorers in the league doing fuck all

Finishing second in that group is a real let down

Apart from the second half against Wales the other 5 halves of football haven't been great

I'd like to see him start his best team, after the half time subs against Wales I was thinking he's got it and was looking forward to seeing that team start last night. It's the first knockout game on Monday and we could do a sweep on what team he's going to put out its that up in the air

Coming top of that group would have given us a much easier route to the semis then it's anyone's

I can't see us getting past Portugal and France to get to the semis the hard way, I just can't

#hosgsonout

would take Austria, Hungary or Iceland. Although that will be another attack versus defence game.

We can all over analyse that tonight all we want, we didn't play badly, we are through the groups and remain unbeaten. We've played 3 of the lost defensive teams ice ever seen.

We've conceded two goals, one was a pot shot the keeper should've saved and the other was a last minute kick in the bollocks.

Let save the doom and gloom till we actually play badly eh?

Nobody from other countries will be watching that tonight saying how shite England were. They will be saying the same we did after watching France v Albania or Germany v Poland.

Folk need to chill the fuck out and remember we don't have a Devine right to win every football match 3-0.

It's job done getting out of the group. Now is when the real

Fun starts.

Couldn't agree more.

The Russia defending for Wales goals last night was Rank amateur. When we play them they have the game of their lives. We're creating chances. The goals will come. I hope

Bertrand not great. Clyne better than Walker in defence and attack.

Thought clyne played well last night but walker has been brilliant last couple of games

Clyne was tearing them a new arsehole till they doubled on him with two full backs.

As much as we did play well, we still struggle to open teams up with packed defences. Crossing and finishing has been poor so far, and set pieces largely ineffective.

Hopefully teams will be a little more open now and vardy may be more effective. That said our defending will be tested.

Frustrated but hopeful.

Wales could face... Croatia, Belgium and Spain

England could face... Hungary, France, Germany

Don't think the 1st v 2nd is that different but as Ani has pointed out, we are now in the knockout stages and still unsure of our best team/formation

I still Personally think we have the players that are suited playing against teams who are likely to come on to us (France, Germany then Spain in the final :))

All this talk of Portugal; doubt it will happen. Really can't see Iceland beating Austria.

If Poland put a few past Ukraine then Germany are in the other half of the draw (with Belgium and Spain) and then 2nd place looks pretty rosy again.

I believe Wales beat them, and tonight they panned Russia.

Aye and we massively outplayed Wales too and beat them!  Bit disappointing not to top that group but it makes no real difference.  We wont win it but a semi would be nice.  Just worried like others have said that we don't seem to know best team.  Surprised he made all those changes for a must win game.

Shearer said something about getting momentum like Euro 96 against Holland.  Think Roy dropped a bollock there but we could have won that 3 or 4 nil had we took our early chances . . .  again!  Skrytel was immense!

Does anyone know our best team or formation?

We'd have a good half dozen permutations and shapes between us on here without even trying.

We were unchanged for the first two games and then made changes for the third (which, to me, suggests we weren't that arsed whether we finished first or second).

There's also nowt to say the best team/shape for one game is the same as for another.

It was a mixed bag for me last night - I thought Henderson and Clyne did well, I've seen Bertrand and Wilshere a lot better.

Vardy and Sturridge both struggled (Vardy disappeared completely) but they'd both done enough against Wales to warrant a start, and Kane and Sterling had done enough in the first two games to deserve a sit down.

I think we'll look more of a threat when we play teams with a bit more attacking intent of their own - the flipside of that is that our defending will be tested a bit more too, and that was the end of the pitch about which we were most concerned going into the tournament.,

A lot of fans and pundits were saying he should drop Kane, Sterling and possibly Ali before last night. He did.

The altering of the full backs made not one stitch of difference as we conceded none and Clyne ran them ragged.

The only question mark was picking wilshire for Rooney which he soon rectified.

We couldn't keep the same team that started v Wales because Kane was shagged and everyone said Ali was crap.

No issue with the changing of the starting XI we dominated the game.

Last night was calling out for the traditional English get it in the mixer type tactics, neat threaded passes were never going to find their way through.

2 wingers and an andy caroll type striker would have won that game easily.

There isn't a best team or formation - it depends on form, fitness, morale and oppositions strength and weaknesses.

Give it a few more games and resting these players might look like a masterstroke.

That chest back from Smalling . . . how did he not get a toe on that?!  Very lucky there imo

This is my thinking.  I am not keen on Vardy playing when the opposition put 10 behind the ball and sit deep, although he could easily have scored first half, I felt a Rashford / Sturridge partnership playing centrally may have had more joy running at them with the ball.

Vardy will be ideal when playing the likes of France/Spain when the possession stats will probably swing in their favour

I don't think finishing second rather than first will make all that much difference for the second round. For the quarters, there should only be decent teams left anyway, so not arsed about that. Our game is suited to teams who come out and play.

In terms of the performance, no worries there really. Slovakia had 11 men behind the ball, any team would struggle. Wilshere seriously lacking match sharpmess though.

My only gripe is that we're looking up the table at Wales. A bit embarrassing. Oh, and missing out on a Saturday piss up by playing Monday instead.

Really hope we do get Portugal. Wanted revenge against them bastards ever since 2004 and 2006. And we will do them.

Nay lad. Play those inbreds 10 times and we win 7. The group standings mean nothing over a paltry 3 games. They still have a massive inferiority complex when it comes to England. So they should. They are inferior.

I'd only be worried right now if we hadn't been creating any chances, there hasn't been a spell yet when England haven't been the better team, all 3 teams should have been battered, 30 shots on goal v Slovakia with a 'weakened' team and against a team with 11/10 defending, it was almost like watching Barcelona, seeing wave after wave of football v total defence,

Out of the big teams, only Spain have looked better, battered both Czechs and Turkey, but still could have drew that first game, late goal by Pique and Czech's had a 90th minute opportunity, France haven't been great, dominated Romania but Romania could have scored 3 times, 0-0 for 90 mins against Albania and then 0-0 v Switzerland, Germany could have conceded a couple v Ukraine and should have lost v Poland, Italy looked good in their 1st game v Belgium but didn't look great v Sweden,

Spain, England and Croatia have been the best so far imo, once England play better teams our defence will be tested more, but going forward there should be more space and not 11/10 players in the last third to try and breakdown, which we have, just need better finishing.

Bang on diddles

I cant believe that Milner hasn't had more game time, we missed his energy and vision badly yesterday

No sweep.

No.

I cant believe that Milner hasn't had more game time, we missed his energy and vision badly yesterday

But we were treated to Henderson who easily matched what Milner would have contributed
