I had an erection from the idea of Sam having a "war room" during his time with us.

Great, and a must read for all those Sam (bwfc) haters out there who nailed their colours to the Gartside mast after Sam left. Gives an interesting small insight into Davies.

Out on a scooter run today. About 40 scooters from lads as far afield as Carlisle and Plymouth.

 

Two things:-

 

1) To a man, all pleased with the appointment of BSA saying things like "the prima donna's have got away with it far too long - Sam will sort them out"

2) They all associate him with BWFC. Soon as I turned up, the Bolton fan was the one they all wanted to question/get an opinion from.

If you lost the failings at last 2 major championships, lack of structure//organisation, a shit defence, players out of position, players played on reputation, players egos etc etc.

 

Not sure can think of one Sam will not improve.

He's certainly got the widest player base to choose from that he's ever had available to him and probably better players to choose from as well.

Maybe. But hopefully the fa have recognised Sam's ability to get the absolute best out of what he's got. I do think he'll be more likely to blow out underperforming stars though.

His first job will be to sort out that defence. Cahill and Hart need to go. If he still wants to use wing backs then I'd go for Clyne and Shaw who defend better than the Spurs duo, but I'd play and extra centre half in there. Perhaps Stones just in front of the other two.

I've thought (& think I may have said it on another thread) that Stones best position may be the Campo role, he has the range of passing & reads the game well & it would eliminate his defensive frailties/lapses.

I can't believe you are having to explain to a Bolton fan that Sam can organise a team to get results better than most.If Sam doesn't think England have top quality centre halfs he'll have the midfield protecting them.The idiot Hodgson selected two Tottenham fancy dans and 4 attacking players in front of the dodgy back 4 against Iceland

All correct above. A blind man could see our weakness was at the Hart (intentional) of defence. Him behind two shite centre backs was always going to be a recipe for disaster.

 

Hope Sam can find a couple of Robert Huth types and a solid keeper (Forster?).

Allardyce actually rates Stones. The problem he has is ironing out faults in a short space of time. Koeman and the coaches will have to do that

 

 

In a purely practical sense Allardyce will be desperately disappointed if he cannot improve the national team’s defence. Back in April, he was asked what he would do if he were managing England’s John Stones.

“Teach him how to defend,” he said. “It would be a simple job for me. That’s my area of expertise. I can coach in all departments, especially team play, but when it comes to defending, you name it and I’ll tell you about it.

“It wouldn’t be too difficult to show Stones, a player of his intelligence, when and where to do things. You’re never going to stop a player of his ability coming out with the ball and passing it around, but don’t do it at the wrong time. Stones could be like Rio Ferdinand. People said he overplayed and kept getting caught out, but by the age of 25 or 26, Rio was one of the best centre-backs in the world, a defender who could play as well. I’d like to work with Stones.”
