I found A Levels 10x harder than my actual degree. The jump from GCSEs to A Level was huge. I got 10 very good GCSEs and thought I could easily coast by but got well below my predicted A Level grades. Well done to your son!

Got seven but the picture was a guess.

As said above, binary was easier because there was only one even option.

6/7, and I got the French one wrong

I do binary for a living, so that made perfect sense. Not sure I'd have known it when I was 16 though.

Not even done the test instead I dug it up buried it and sent happy an invoice for 20k.

Got 6/7 in the first one. I then re-sat it and got 7/7.

7/7 and I'm thick as fuck

If I'd had a couple of weeks solid revision first I'd have got 7 I reckon, so long as it was still multiple choice

4/7. Got the first one wrong. Never did binary so had no idea. And likewise didn't do French. Worked the rabbits out and guessed the other 3.

6 had no idea about binary and guessed the picture.

Surely this straw poll shows that binary has no place in the real world

Used to do it as part of maths. Together with base 8, hexadecimal etc. All the same ultimately; just different.

Back in the day I was on a week's IT course where the first halfday was focused on octal (base eight arithmetic. The next 4 days involved using it throughout.

The lecturer told a story about when he flew to Belgrade to give the course to a Yugoslavian Army group.

After the first session on octal arithmetic he asked for questions, but there were none. At the end of each subsequent halfday he asked for questions, but none were forthcoming. Finally, at the end of the course one member asked "What is this Octal of which you speak?", and everyone else echoed "Yes, yes, what is this Octal of which you speak?" He realised that none of them had understood his opening session, and therefore anything that followed. He also knew he had an hour to get to the airport for his flight home. He bade them farewell and left.

(and look what has happened to Yugoslavia since then)
