I didn't say there were no examples but 6 passes in a 10 minute reel doesn't exactly prove your point (if your point is for him to replace Sheehan).

And if your point is that he's not a like for like replacement, then would you suggest we do away with having a playmaker (as that is what Sheehan is) and if we do move Sheehan on AND then replace him with a playmaker, then clearly the the new playmaker would be the one replacing Sheehan and not Watson as you suggest in your original post.

I'm not looking for an argument, I simply don't see the signing of Watson having a domino effect of moving Sheehan out, as your view seems to be.

My point is that he's a different type of playmaker and as we saw at the start of the season SS isn't wedded to having Sheehan start. Things change and stuff that worked in League 1, might not in the Championship.

Filipe Morais looked great in League 1, he didn't in the Championship.

 Championship should suit Sheehan better

A playmaker that can't pass?

Seems to much of a radical idea to me.

Maybe you are right, I just don't see it happening myself.

I might be in the minority on here, but I'm not that bothered about Tutu going, he's been impressive at times this season, but he's not been a stand out performer consistently, he's been great in the last couple of games, but does he really deserve another contract at a much higher level? Nah not imo.

Agreed, I think he was great in the play offs, just as Burstow was great in August and September.

Tutu isn't a right back, for me he's an exciting L1 standard winger who can fill in at RB.

We'll be signing a proper RB, for the level above.

When popular players have left in the past (JDB, Forrester, Collins etc) we get folk on here having a bit of a dig saying "look what standard they're playing at now, they never get a better club than us".

I wonder how many championship clubs will be wanting Tutu or GJ for next season?

He can clearly pass, but there are different types of passes. Being good at long through balls into space is not the same as lightening passes to feet, both passes totally different skills. That's just an example before you get ideas.

Gutted about Tutu.

Maybe he's made it clear that he doesn't want to play right back if he considers himself a winger. Don't think he's good enough for the wing in the championship.

If he was happy to continue at right back then it's a surprise he's leaving, the fact that he showed his best in the most crucial games at the end of this season made me think he could do the step up. Although playing behind ACD must be a full backs dream so difficult to assess how good he really is.

I can see a few but not starting XI signings.

In Schumacher we trust, he's got rid before and been proven right in doing so (Santos, etc). Let's just enjoy the ride

If so, there'll be plenty of takers down that way. All three of GJ, Dempsey and him will get fixed up pretty quickly

Just not at championship level

I've heard people say that, it might, but i wouldn't be too certain of that, it's that bit quicker, that bit stronger, that bit smarter. It might make the elements of his game that were vital to us in league 1 and render them lacking. Like...Filipe Morais who couldn't contend with Championship full backs, so it didn't matter how good his delivery was, he couldn't get into the positons he needed for it to matter.

Rumour before the last few games of the season GJ was off to Blackpool .

Managed to recoup most of the schon outlay if the 650k fee is to be believed. I would of sold the shit bastard for 100k.

Considering he was probably on atleast 5k a week, theyve been paying for the last season, plus the extra year we're now not paying, it's a decent deal.

I don't always have ideas but I am often curious.

In this instance I was curious as to why a 10 minute highlight reel showed next to nothing about a midfielders passing ability?

Why wouldn't it if that was part of his game that lead to creating goals and assists?

Maybe that is because there wasn't that many examples to showcase?

You say above Sheehan wasn't Schumacher's go to man at the start of the season but he clearly was when it came to the most important end part of the season - in fact he was always the first name for midfield - it was always Josh and one other.

Yes it is possible that BWFC changes its playing style for the Championship season and sign players who play as you say " lightening passes to feet" and no longer bother with anyone who are any "good at long through balls into space" but having a squad of clones - like we did with Evatt's, Evatt-ball, and recruiting more number 10's than we could wave a stick at, didn't exactly end well, did it?

I somehow can't see Harkin and Schumacher building a one dimensional team like Mr Evatt did.

We've not even signed Watson yet but if we did, and unlike you, I simply don't believe that it would spell the end for Sheehan.

Just my view.

No need for an endless argument.

The more i look into this David Watson the more and more he looks like a replacement for Sheehan. Could Sheehan be going back to South Wales? not impossible i guess. It would fit our business model if we were to move him on now he's past 30 with no Championship experience, he might be seen as a taking a space a future asset could use, by the management, who knows. We do have a ruthless streak, if it's not via his choice.

With who in S Wales when both Cardiff and Swansea are in the Championship and I can’t see them wanting him?

Edited by Whitesince63

Sad to see the players leaving that are doing so but SS is no mug. The Championship is a different level (obvs) and he knows what he needs. If he doesn’t see it in a current player then fair enough. TBH I’m more interested in who we bring in rather than let go

There's Bristol and West Brom in the Championship and Oxford in League 1, all at max 2 hours from Cardiff. Not saying it'll happen but if he's not 100% guaranteed to start in the Championship there will be other options for such a talented lad. Might end up going to Blackpool, nowt like Evatt to squeeze a decent budget out of owners.

Nobody has any idea of Schon's fee, apart from about 5 people, why bother speculating 🤣

Tutu is the most surprising of the four departing, but the fact of the matter is that he had one or two good games last season and about half dozen this time around.

Not a great return over a two-year contract and lots of people's thinking today is clouded by recency bias.

Whilst I agree, his versatility did make it worth considering.

Equally mediocre in a number of positions?

Two right away that would look like good targets, Millwall's Tutu in Danny McNamara and maybe Dennis Cirkin on the left, both Free agents in a month, both with tons of Championship experience and still young, so resale value.

Perfectly adequate as a backup.

I don't disagree on that score. I think that (a) he's moving closer to home to somewhere he won't be a backup and (b) we're looking at better even as backups.
