FFS. This isn't Behind The Stands. Most folk come on here to read bullshit rumours and conjecture, with the odd bit of accurate stuff thrown in. It's boring as fuck reading your personal squabbles.

We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

This Sheff Weds v Sunderland game is dreadful so far but I wouldn’t say no to Patrick Roberts..

Brilliant news and this type of signing is definitely the way forward. It's heavily dependent on spotting players with the potential to play at the higher level rather than having done so already. As such you need a thorough scouting system. But its the right way to go and if we do go up and he proves himself at Championship level then his value is higher. It's good business on all fronts.

Having said all that I still think there's room for a sprinkling of the Kieran Lee/Bodvarsson "been, seen and done at Championship level" signings. Only a sprinkling though. 80 per cent of the time this type of signing is going to be the right way ahead.

Well done IE, Sharon and co.

Agree with all that, difficult to see a downside to this signing.  Even if it doesn't work out for any reason he's got enough of a reputation in the game for us to be able to move him on on in a year or 2, unlike some we've had under contract in recent years that have just got in the way of improving the squad.

As much as its great to sign players of the "right age", I've always been an advocate of also signing proven quality older players, going back to Bergsson and Speed etc, to the more recent Karl Henry, Bridcutt, Gary O'Neill.  It doesn't matter that they wouldn't be with us in 2 or 3 years, their role would be to help get the younger players where they deserve to be and probably have the impact of playing like captains even if they don't wear the armband.

Average age must be about 24/25 now?

solid long term plan adding bits of extra quality here and there and players who already have great experience

been such a long time..

You can sign a contract with another club in your last 6 months

Which he has done.

He’ll be registered when the window opens. 1st July.

2 clubs in the same country?

As for Iredale

This is just a deal being agreed in advance of deals running out with all parties knowing the score

He's not being tapped up

If this sort of thing wasn't allowed no one would be talking about haaland already being a city player

It’s 6 months if the clubs are in separate countries. One month if in the same country I believe?

Ahh sorry yeah.

But I think that’s to stop a conflict of interest for that player for his new club, so I assume his contract ran up to June or there’s an exemption with our season ending. I think it’ll be the latter.

He’s signed so who cares 😂

Indeed. I'm sure we've followed all the proper protocol, Shaz is a good girl 😂

Its obviously all above board, but it does make me wonder how we'd feel if the boot was on the other foot.  Iredale was reportedly lined up by us weeks ago (if we believe rumours) and last year I'm sure Sheehan said he knew he was coming to Bolton weeks before the season ended.  We might have played Newport in the play offs, and who knows how motivated he was against Morecambe at Wembley.  I don't care, just wondering how we'd feel next April if we heard Santos was chatting with Sheff Wed and we were both in the top 6.

Well, that’s cool as long as they’re ready to meet the £10m release clause in his new contract.

It's probably a massive grey area where these 6 month/1 month rules are in place for the legalities but in reality there's tapping up going on all over the place

It happens and can’t and won’t be stopped. If an agent has a player at BWFC and that same agent has a player at another club it’s so easy to ‘tap up’

Salaries and bonuses get leaked, numbers get exchanged between two players, nothing is technically illegal.

Agree with that JR, great to have a nucleus of young and youngish players but you only have to look at the effect Baps and Gillo had during our promotion year. Someone who’s been there, done it, got the T Shirt that young players can look up to are worth their weight in gold.

I'm told, by a notoriously unreliable, knee-jerk, guy .... Duck Egg knows him well ... that we're about to sign a centre-back from Barrow.

Obviously, I've never heard of Matt Platt but he has an alluringly alliterative name.

24, 6' and played 80 games for Barrow in the past 2½ years. So solid enough but, presumably, a squad player. Nowt wrong with that I guess.

Does your source work for the Bolton News?

Was on twatter  y’day. Somebody had been on the Barrow forum where somebody else said he was signing for us. Must be true.

Yes Baptiste and Gilks two great examples, older players who are used to higher division football and have the right attitude/leadership qualities.

Presumably IE signed him for Barrow, so he must know if he's capable of the step up (we'll forget about Tom White).  Had a few years at Blackburn without getting in first team.
