frank_spencer Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 If the spread was helped by any of the complaints from the residents committee then shit will really hit the fan. Quote
madthatter Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Does it stop with the owner or do they deflect it to the "responsible person"? I'd like to think the buck rests with whoever skimped and made £££ out of any building cost reductions. In the real world though I bet it's going to be a nightmare court case that will drag for years before it's gotten to the bottom of. Suppose the first thing is to be certain if regulations weren't met. If they were then they will need changing. I saw some of the eye witness testimonies last night - seems every time I watch a news clip at the momemnt I end up with plenty of dust in my peepers. Those poor souls Quote
gonzo Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Did anyone ever get done for that nightclub fire in America? That was pretty grim Quote
Escobarp Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Yeah my father in law is an insurance loss adjuster and says his money is on the insulation used in the recladding wasn't fire retardant to save money on the part of the contractor I did say this was the likely issue here Quote

Guest Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 (edited) Saduq Khan wants the PM to answer his questions this afternoon Presumably not on goatskin Looks like we got that anarchy Edited June 16, 2017 by boltondiver Quote
mickbrown Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Saduq Khan wants the PM to answer his questions this afternoon Presumably not on goatskin Looks like we got that anarchy I like to think I'm reasonably intelligent, but I genuinely have no idea what point you are trying to make here. Quote
Guest Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 I think you are very intelligent I can't understand why the Mayor of London could possibly be demanding answers from the PM on something that happened 2 days ago, unless he had another motive. The "anarchy " comment? It seems as though we are ungovernable at the moment Quote

Agree on the anarchy bit - we've got the politicians we deserve it seems at the moment. Quote

The "anarchy " comment? It seems as though we are ungovernable at the moment I've read his letter. It is entirely reasonable, proportionate and fair what he is asking. I don't detect any attempt in it to score political points, though clearly everything done by politicians has that in mind. I think everything he asks for is fair enough. His first point about the arrangements for procedure and release of information via emergency services are designed around terror attacks but aren't appropriate for this sort of situation seems entirely fair and is something that needs looking at. Should it be directed to the PM? Is that really the correct protocol? Quote
Guest Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Should it be directed to the PM? Is that really the correct protocol? Why not? It is a request for action and answers from government. She is the head of that government. Whether it is a piece of political grandstanding or not it is the right thing to do, the right things to ask and the right things to seek. Frankly the motives aren't as important as the result. Quote

The "anarchy " comment? It seems as though we are ungovernable at the moment Well education is in a right mess and needs a complete overhaul, power to educators and some strong leadership. I have an interview Monday and have been told to be up to date with the new curriculum - I'm not sure anyone is 100% clear on what is going on or what direction it's going to go in - wish me luck Back on point - don't know about that - I'd say what we are lacking is strong, coherent leadership. Granted, these are uncertain times but I get the feeling politicians are reluctant to stick their necks out in case they are judged negatively - this is where the current system fails us, imo. To make an behavioural/educational analogy - folk are 'acting out' because the boundaries aren't clear . . . More about the politician (career and ego) than what's best for us. bah humbug Edited June 16, 2017 by madthatter Quote
