You can't acuse Parents and Students of creating the mess though.  The government and exam regulators had an opportunity to prevent the chaos before the A levels were initially released.  They must have known the algorithm was blatantly unfair.

They don't provide a valid argument, it'sjust anti-Tory drivvle, although Gavin Williamson is out of his depth, but it's not up to me or anyone on here to sack him. Its unprecedented, its shit, but its something we have never done before and collectively it's been shit. Without actual written exams there is NO solution, whatever the govt, ofqual, dfe would have come up with, it would have failed, and that doesn't matter who is in power.

What was Labour's stance on things before and after mate ? Didn't Angela Rayner make her voice heard on another system last year  ? Not 100% up to date on all this so could be totally wrong.

I'm sorry but they took the worst option available.  Of course it was difficult but they had about 4/5 months warning and it didn't take an A* student to see what they came up with was completely flawed.

Has it been pointed out that other countries had exams?

How did the Welsh go on ?

They reverted to teachers grades. Not a U Turn, say the BBC, just reverted. Look forward to not having to fund the BBC

The algorithm was to bring results in line with results in previous years, unfortunately this affected a small group of Students, small or big it's still unfair. But what we have now or from tomorrow is inflated GCSE grades, these Students going on to A-Level courses, some (quite a few) will be out of their depth, this will have a knock-on effect in further education centres and then in Universities (already happening with inflated A-Levels), Teachers now have their work cut out, their job has become harder. The other affect it will have, will be on the Students themselves, the pressure they and their parents put themselves under will cause great anxiety and some will suffer mental health issues, it's a double edged sword, inflated grades or realistic grades, and the more realistic grades were the actual Algorithm grades, unfortunately this compromise the teachers awarding of the CAG grades, it's a no win situation and all contributed by this pandemic.

About 40% had lower grades. That is not a small group.

Young people might get mental issues? They seem to be prone.

Good response, by the way

They ALL reverted to teachers grades. CAG (centre assessed grades) were all provided by teachers.

I know!

The grades were 40% lower than the teachers CAG's, hence 40% inflation on average over the past 3 years.

That doesn't apply to all centres, some put their grades up around 12%, some near to 60%.

Well if they have evidence that some institutions have exam grades that are consistently inflated by 60% they should be dealt with as that is corrupt.  However, overall it would have been a far better solution to use the teachers predictions in the first place as they know the individuals.  It does leave this years exam grades inflated but you still end up with more students going to the universities that they deserve.

I don't think anyone will argue with that, they trusted the teachers to give them the grades and they should have gone with it, they were always going to be inflated. Because the ones you expect to get the grades they are predicted (the majority) a fair percentage, let's say 25% of these will get a lower grade, and the ones who do better and gain a higher grade, but unexpectedly (a minority, say 5%). Hence grade inflation on predicted grades, no perfect solution.

Apart from exams

Good find, although it was before the pandemic, and if they were in power, they would have had to go back on it.

Interesting to hear Farrelli's view on it now mate.

Tbe, Farelli as at least debated, listened and contributed to the argument....For now 😃

Yes, I agree mate. I'm just happy listening to both sides, especially yours as its what you do for a living.

Thanks. I haven't got time for one of Miami's 'look what Sadiq Khan's brother had for tea last Tuesday' tangents.

Nothing of the sort fella, genuinely interested in the debate.

Well in that case why are you using an article from last year ?  The situation faced this year has changed the picture completely.  Even if the LP thought this last year they would surely have seen the merit in using teachers predicted grades if the alternative was an algorithm.

Where’s Captain Bumblecunt hiding during the biggest crisis this country has faced in 80 years?

And just a reminder, the Tories are in power so whataboutery is a bit pointless

Was just seeing what they said that’s all. No agenda for me here unlike your anti Tory obsession 😁

Hiding? Not allowing people to do what they’re paid to do and face the flak accordingly? Strange how people see things so diffident.
