Fair play for acknowledging this but I said that to you a month or so back and you said it was a negotiating tactic.

See my recent post.  I think it is. But that doesn’t mean I don’t think we shouldn’t now be delaying which is my point

The deadline for extending was end of June.

we all know that, if we requested it now, that we'd get an extension - the EU will be more than happy for us to keep paying in for as long as possible, so they'd give us an extension if we wanted one I reckon

I can’t see why anyone thinks he wants to go WTO. Who benefits from this in reality? Won’t be us and won’t be the EU so it’s in neither sides interest. I see it as a negotiation tactic and hope I’m right

Brexit was never meant to 'benefit' anyone. Most prominent Brexiters said they were willing to let the country take a hit as long as we got out as soon as possible, and large swathes of the public lapped that up and started screaming "Let's go WTO!!" without understanding what it meant.

Surely it will benefit some. Even if it’s just the people who bet heavily on it. In anything there are winners and losers? Covid has been a good example of this.

Deadlines can be moved, with the agreement of both sides.

They can but goodwill is severely lacking for Boris and co.

Perhaps Boris (Dom) thinks that any immediate economic hit that happens as a result of leaving at the end of the year can be hidden within (or attributed to) the existing recession / depression that we’ll be facing over the next few years as a result of COVID-19.

Yes they can but it was extremely pigheaded of our government to flatly refuse this option in June.  It was fairly clear that Covid has impeded negotiations and I'm left with the opinion that Boris/Cummings/Gove all want WTO.

I've felt for a while that Boris & Rees-Mogg want WTO for whatever reason. Of those that post on here, I think there is only Bolty (I think) that has said he'd like to go WTO. No matter what side you sit on, I think most agree that going WTO wouldn't be a good thing at all, neither for us or the EU, as it would cause a huge short term impact, that nobody wants at present, especially as everything is about to, economically, drop off a cliff

That is a salient point.  I can imagine the waffle spewing out of his mouth.  If they can try and pin the care home mis-management on care home owners not following procedures they are well capable of blaming brexit disaster to our economy on covid.

Yep.  The fact that they are trying to promote Liam Fox as WTO Leader is an indication of where we are heading.

You need to re-check my friend. I have consistently said, as per my good friend MK, that a deal would be struck as it's in both sides best interests. I may have said at some stage 'fuck them then. Go WTO' in the face of EU intransigence but 'would like' is entirely different.

I don’t think Boris wants WTO but Rees Mogg most likely does.  Anyhow didnt I say there would be a deal. 😂

I'm not sure if I've posted this before, but a plasterer I know (not that his profession is relevant) was all excited about his new passport coming a few months ago, probably around February/March I think, dead chuffed because he'd have a blue passport......he was proper miffed when it turned up, and it was still burgundy, and he's lumbered with it for the next ten years. He reckons, but of course, hes talking shit, that he'll "accidentally" destroy/lose it within a few months and then apply for a new one - says he's not arsed about the cost, it's the principle of it.

I do though suspect that he's probably more miffed at not going to Florida last month with his kids, due to COVID, that and apparently not being able to get hold of decent volumes of the plaster dust stuff that he needs to do his work

he actually is, in his own way, but he does have a massive hatred towards the EU, mainly based on his previous business going bust many years ago, due to "Polish Plasterers" under cutting him
