Jeremy Hunt would be infinitely better.

Some are backing Tom Tugendhat as he's different or "Tuggen Twat" as the whips refer to him

He seems to spend an awful lot of time making simpering apologies to Parliament.

Its what this country is all about.

if this was two years or so ago, there'd have been protests a plenty

what happened to them? are they not the done thing anymore, or is that everyone has to go to work now?

lets get an anti Boris protest going on

I'll boo from my door step

what fucks me off though it the constant suggestion that things would be different if there was a decent opposition

bollocks

things would be different if there were decent politicians in the conservatives

Would they be in power though? Which I think is the inference.

If they win the next GE we might as well Scrap the system and just let them Govern indefinitely.

first bit

they are in power, am on about the here and now

not that I know much about politics, but if there was a decent politician to take over, I would've thought there would've been a Tory mutiny by now and he would've had no choice to resign, having broke the law and generally fucking off voters

but they are that shit, they're just letting him get on with it

second bit

aye

the local elections coming up will be interesting

if they get there arses handed to them, then maybe the that mutiny will happen

The system is rigged.

They'll be hoping this made up story about sending migrants to Rwanda will help them in the locals, as it plays to their audience perfectly.....sadly, we all know it'll never actually happen, but that doesn't matter to them.

What is he apologising for? Breaking covid rules repeatedly and lying about it or lies he told when apologising last time. It’s just a farce. He was quite happy to waste police time hoping he wouldn’t ever get caught.

I think if there was a strong opposition then there'd be a lot more Tories in marginal seats getting twitchy.  As it is, they know the PM and by extension themselves are practically untouchable and they're likely to get re-elected once we all 'move on'.

This is definitely on the Tories though.  You'd like to think amongst them that there'd be several members with morals that recognise the current situation is unacceptable and put a challenge in for the good of the country.  I'm not hearing much dissent though.

I think he should do the honorable thing and walk. I don’t think it’s the wrong time as folk say as ultimately he’s just the bod at the top the minions underneath do all the work.

be interesting to see what happens in the locals and what the powers that be in the conservative party make of it and what if any actions come as a result.

I do still think despite all the wrongdoing and scandal they will win the next GE. Wait for it , because the alternative is seen by the electorate as being worse.

it'll be interesting because of all the brexit votes they got last time

where I live, the council is virtually all Labour / Lib Dem

but in the GE, the tories won 25k to 23k over Lib Dem

I'll be amazed if that was the case next time and would expect Lib Dems to win

brexit's been done now, so they can't rely on that one next time

it still might be enough like, but they'll lost a lot of seats I'd have thought

I think I said as much several hundred pages back.

As Mick Brown pointed out above, its a skewed game our electorial system, it currently favours the Conservatives, meaning that if you are a betting man - still put your money on the Conservatives winning the next GE; and that has nothing to do with the main opposition being 'weak'

Labour needs a swing of nearly 10% to win a working majority, in context in 1997 under Blair the swing was just a smidge over 10% - so you can see the huge task anyone faces in ousting the current government.

It also means not only winning back the 51 seats Labour lost in 2019, but also taking 47 seats that the Conservatives have heald since 2010 and THEN changing the voters in Scotland back to Labour to gain 15 more seats.

When you see it like that, you can see the scale of the challenge - the first priority isn't really getting voted into power, its winning back the target seats in the North of England to then give the Labour party a basis for moving forward and to help challenge the government.

As I say, Johnson is the biggest asset any opposition has currently - the problem is, he still enjoys huge support despite the lack of leadership shown over the past 1,000 days. Its also the reason the MPs who are calling for a change in leadership and have submitted letters are those in the newly gained Northern seats as they don't enjoy the larger majorities that are seen in the South East of England.

The ruling classes in the home counties now decide on our government essentially, the poorer and urban don't. And trust me, as long as Yours in Tunbridge Wells is high and fine, they couldn't give a shiny sneer about the Boltons, Burys, and Burnleys of the world. The Tories know who they really need to listen to.

Tremendous summary.

So in effect, Scotland being so Nationalist is ensuring Labour are held back?

May be an image of 1 person and text that says 'durex ALF BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW WHAT COULD HAPPEN'

This final paragraph perfectly sums it up for me
