Just hearing that our Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero has left COP28 early to make it back for the Rwanda vote 🙄

The opposite of Boris when he fucked off to the opposite side of the world to avoid voting on Heathrow expansion

Despite saying he would lie in front of the bulldozers etc

I've said before that I don't vote but if Farage returns he'd get my vote.

And only if its to the Conservative Party. I wouldn’t bother if it was to any small time party like Reform.

Unlikely to happen though.

Dear oh dear 😉

An easy thing to get confused

What he meant was he'd tell a lie in front of the bulldozers

Will they?

Sunak will spin stats about stopping the boats etc

Daily Mail readers and the right wing will be all over it

The electorate have short minds

Don't think it will be an annihilation

True, wishful thinking maybe.

Why, what do you think he would offer that nobody else can?

He’s so popular he was just outvoted on a tv show where he ate wombat dicks by a scouse boxer and a lad who no one has ever heard of.

Have a gander at this, and some history around "Pairing".

A similar tale also occurred during Brexit debates, with Brandon Lewis abstaining on some votes, but breaking his pair agreement with Jo Swinson.

On very important, key votes (eg 3 line whips) pairing isn't necessarily allowed anyhow, so even if a pairing partnership exists, it might not be used on a given occasion.

As detailed, it really highlights the need for modernisation, and the use of proxy voting or similar.

We have a valued parliamentary system, but sometimes its archaic nature holds it back.

I can't read that mate, it's behind a paywall.

I wonder why he didn't just stay at the conference if this was an option. It doesn't really give us much credibility leaving his underlings to thrash out a deal.

If there's actually going to be one without "could" being in the proposal!

Here's a paywall-avoiding link:

Like all the others ... probably nothing.

I just like the guy.

What do you think the others could offer that he couldn't?

And what lovely, likable man he was shown to be in there 😊

Another one where I could see it! Weird.

Anyway, hope the article helped.

As you can see, this sort of thing does happen from time to time.

Pairing can only be arranged by two MPs of opposing parties

But the problem for the Tories in this instance is that a significant number of their own MPs were unwilling to support the bill, which meant they needed as many Tory MPs prepared to vote in favour of it to do so in order to try and prevent it failing
