But the IFS are accepting that the circa 8Bn overspend she’s just announced (mainly in asylum) but also elsewhere wasn’t known. That’s not exactly small fry! The OBR have just launched an investigation into the overspend.

We know all parties ducked the fiscal black hole but when a long series of Tory announcements from history turn out to be not in any of their budgets and there is an in year overspend approaching 8Bn - I think it’s reasonable to say ‘it’s worth than we thought’ even if you had failed to acknowledge it was ‘bad’ previously.

It's small fry in the context of the overall spending bill, and is cynically but shrewdly being used to justify the tax increases they will have always intended (and needed) to have announced

It also helps drive another nail in the coffin of the Tory party's claims to be the party of financial responsibility

Clever

Is it small fry? That we’ve spent the in year reserves three times over?

In the context of the overall spending bill, yes

In the context of the £22Bn shortfall though?

I think so

Can’t agree there, it’s a big chunk of the in year gap she has announced.

I'm not sure why people are scared of paying a bit more tax when they're happy for their virgin media bill to go up £20 a month every year. Imagine if that went into the NHS? We could write it on the side of a bus maybe? 😁

Not scared but frustrated maybe? How much is being spunked on illegal immigrant accommodation/food and spending money, interception, processing including from the UK 'drop' point to said accommodation, security etc.

If I were paying UK tax, that would piss me off, especially when gunboats towing/turning the boats around would be massively cheaper. The ECHR tax. Stump up.

Now this 'settlement' has been reached, which of the Labour paymaster unions goes next? Police, nurses, civil servants, firemen, ambulance folk - the list will go on. All will point to junior doctor award and say "Us next".

The subsequent tax grab is coming as it always does under Labour. It will have to in order for all these bills to be met. Strap yourselves in. It only need be one term.

I presume you're prepared to concede that those who where in power for the last 14 years are complicit in this? - even though, until fairly recently, you where one of their cheerleaders (the new Thatcher, Churchillian etc)

So yet again if you work hard all your life and don't piss your money up a wall you lose out,but if you claim some sort of benefit probably because you couldn't be arsed working or blowing every penny you have earned you will still get your winter fuel money

Yes. As you well know I was recommending the switch to voting for Reform a long time ago if you care to do the research. Not 'fairly recently' as you allege.

The other bullshit you type is just that. Hoping for maybe. I will always be Thatcherite, Churchillian etc. when it comes to admiration for former leaders. Two of the best of all time right there.

Getting back to the subject of those you have been cheerleading for. Will you still be when they roll out the tax hikes they duped you into voting for them with by saying they wouldn't do it?

Not all pensions on pension credits have "spunked their money" !

I know this from my mums experience.

Cobblers, you loved Johnson, and he was in charge less than two years ago, so that's hardly "a long time ago" - your switch to Reform has only come about as soon as it was apparent that the Conservative Party had totally fucked everything up and would lose power. You'd never mentioned them more than 12/18 months ago, when you were still getting overly excited at the thought of Mordaunt getting the top job

There's millions who have worked all their life also but can only dream of these pensions boomers are enjoying.

Then add it the younger ones trying to scrape a 10% deposit on a house that was easily affordable by any family back then, even with only one working.

The winter fuel thing should always have been a means tested thing. It's ridiculous that it's available to all pensioners

Yeah - my parents used theirs to fly abroad in winter- I suppose they were keeping warm, but they've always said they've never needed it.

My Father-in-law is very wealthy, he's never needed it. Always makes a joke when he gets it. And he gives it to us 😊

Do you think the kind of pensioner he talks about wont get the payment?

Its going to be a biggie this one, cos the readership of the mail and telegraph will lap it up

How long has it been paid to all pensioners?

I thought there was something if it got really cold, but i didnt know millionaires got 500quid a year
