And to be fair. The redundancy package for the NHS is pretty generous compared to most. I'm sat here doing the sums and trying to figure out if I could open a picture framing business.

Licence to print bloody money that game! 😉😁

Did it part time a good ew years ago, thought it was something I could take up in retirement... I'll have to dig my Morso out of the lock up

You'll never be short of work.

Blimey - I didn't realise everyone was at it!

I'm not sure I'm practical enough to be honest! 😂

If reasonable cuts can be made then surely it’s a good thing. Theres a lot of our taxes being wasted if this can be stopped then happy days.

All an inevitability really.

Local government was hit badly during the first "austerity". Since; mps and ministers have spoken about reducing the number of civil servants, without ever doing much about it.

Last government seemed to go soft when parts of it kicked off- working from home etc.

Not sure how much appetite there was for doing so with this one, but the axe is apparently going to be wielded.

NHS reform was however, part of their pitch pre election, so not really unexpected.

Now the war has continued to throw a big financial spanner into the works so more departments are going to be shaved.

The sums have to add up eventually, and if we are to build the armed forces, the money has to come from somewhere.

It’s more than just the mitres. Of all the things I did, this was my favourite. It was for a competition. I saw some of the others and decided not to enter. I’m a bit of a sensitive sausage.

It’s a representation of a record player turntable if it’s not obvious.

This is the reality of your 6th form socialist politics Fromage. It never ends well and we will all be paying for it for years to come.
Maybe these boat people will take up the slack.

This cannot be good.

Added to an ageing population and 500 boat people turning up a day I'm not sure who is going to pay all the tax.

I read today those above 70 are more likely to pay income tax than those 18-30.

Madness.

What they will save on wages is a drop in the ocean mate.

Wages are 0.625% of our organisations spend annually. The rest goes on services.

So they are going to save 0.3125% on our running costs.

£500m pa overall isn't it?

Which is less than what it costs to run RBH for context.

Shirley you could get yourself a gig in a provider @kent_white? (If you wanted to?!)

It's not all "practical"... I liked it because it was a combination of practical and creativity... I did a basic one day course at a place in Northampton... getting the right kit helps things. Mrs D had a stall on Cambridge Art & Craft Market selling her glasswork and rather than just sit around "helping" I got my own stall, selling framed pictures of Cambridge, I took black and white photos, made them "limited edition" and framed them... we did it for good few years until Brexit and Covid came along.

You can pick up the kit on eBay etc.. give it a go if you fancy it, you only live once

I have the kit in my lock up.. guillotine, underpinner, mount cutter, A frame cutter etc.

My work was much more basic, I used to take black and white street photographs around Cambridge, frame them and flog them on the  market... it was more of a paid Saturday hobby for me

Of course. Absolutely nothing wrong with that and it’s how I started off and as it happens, finished off, in the garage.  To make a living though in that market, you now need a computerised mount cutter which I had. (The first in the area) cost around £20,000 today.
The equipment you have would probably cost around £4000 for decent stuff. Add to that the cost of commercial premises and you need plenty of work to make a living (and work lots of hours)👍

That’s not true. non-doms pay tax on what they earn in the uk. Last I heard, about £500,000 each on average. Happy to be proved wrong😉 It certainly isn’t ‘fuck all’

Yep. He sent me a really nice message just before I retired. I keep sending work there from people who still send enquiries to me.

It is a result of fanaticism linked to socialist dogma.

A sure way to the poor house. The dumb fuckers.

Anyway, amongst all of the crossfire, two things to say.

1) I hope a good bloke like Kent who really does care gets to keep his job. Even better, gets promoted.

2) Astounded that it's a Labour government doing these things. They've clearly sensed the wind of change happening all around the globe and are proactively trying to get ahead of the game. I never thought I would ever say that I am impressed by much that a Labour government is doing. This is, of course, if they actually follow through and do it.

his decision to target pensioners

When interest rate rises are used as a fix all, thats never described as targetting young folk

Nobody targetted pensioners

Wealthier pensioners just got their chance to muck in fixing a problem

5 years Boby. Or 3 at least according to Bolty before any judgement should be passed.

Plenty of time. I just hope 0.1% won’t ruin your day. It certainly won’t ruin mine.
