I saw a programme from Iran when I was in Germany (on holiday) and it showed the resistance by many women to the wearing of it. Many chose to just put a scarf on their head to show respect to the religion but also showing their independence as a woman. Maybe ask the Muslim women.
When the men aren’t around.

I’ll add this quote from my link that most probably won’t read.

‘The Iranian revolution brought seismic changes to Iran, not least for women. One area that has come under scrutiny is the way women dress and wear their hair. Wearing the hijab was enforced, many of the rights women had been granted were withdrawn and the Female Minister of Education in Iran, Farokhroo Parsa was executed by firing squad.’

I've got mixed feelings about it. On one hand - I can imagine that in some circumstances it might be used as a means to oppress women. But on the other hand I don't think the state should be telling people what they can and can't wear.

Mainly - I just don't notice it being a problem other than I find it a bit of a weird sartorial choice. Perhaps if there were loads of Muslim women complaining about it - I'd give it more credence. But right now - with the issues that the UK is already facing - this would be waaaaaaay down my list of priorities.

Plus - and perhaps more importantly, who wants to be emulating the French! 😁

Almost all phone thefts, muggings, and ram raids are carried out by women wearing Burkas. How do you not know this?

I'm about as offended by women wearing burkas as I am by men wearing CP Company clothing with those goggles sewn into them 😁

I know blokes who go to Scotland draped in defaced England flags to watch the Scottish premier league and pretend they’re only there for the football.

You missed the bit about them singing "No Surrender" continuously

Can't remember the last time I saw anyone wearing a Burka over here, but the only City I visit on a regular basis is York. See the odd Hijab, which would probably be next on the "BAN IT!" list if the swivel-eyed oddballs got their way.

I saw a group of women wearing Burkas in a hotel pool in Bahrain a few years ago, which was a bit weird, but each to their own innit. I'd be far more wary of a lad on a bike wearing a balaclava than I would a woman walking down the street wearing a Burka.

I often wonder who’s asking them to

Ban Stone Island.

You see a fair few Niqabs in Bolton town centre. But far more hijabs (which I actually think look quite smart). Very rarely see full Burkas.

When I see comments like this, I realise some people live in a completely different world to others. Remember this and understand other peoples points of view. This is a Bolton Wanderers forum. Im guessing you don’t actually come into our town?

I see one or two folk in a Burka in Chorley from time to time, not often but if so usually in or near Morrisons doing a shop. Not that I care one iota mind.

Have drive up Daubhill, Nelson, Colne, Preston, Burnley, Blackburn etc etc.

There's bloody loads.

I hate it tbf. It's divisive, oppressive and just looks fucking ridiculous as well being highly symbolic of their backward ways.

I go into Bolton fairly regularly. Maybe I have seen some, but just not taken any notice, because I'm not looking out for it, while you are? 🤷‍♂️

Are balaclavas divisive?

So you have seen them. Make your mind up.🤷‍♂️

They fucking should be. Let's be honest there is no reason to ever own one unless you are in the SAS or it's made of rubber and you live in Blackpool.

As I said - maybe I have, but not taken any notice. It's not something I go round looking for. I've probably seen lots of ginger-haired people too, but I couldn't tell you the last time I saw one.

Quite possibly yeah.

We're human beings. We're hard wired to favour people who look like us and to view with suspicion people who don't.

We're not going to change a couple of hundred thousand years of evolutionary biology by banning the burka.

They don't hold religious or oppressive connotations but they are worn by utter cunts and should be banned before anything else.

The sight of these shitty nob head road men thinking they are ten men on e-scooters do my head in.

A blanket ban on face coverings could almost make sense. I could see the logic behind that. Just banning one particular type of face covering doesn't make much sense - unless you've got a prejudice against the particular section of society that wear them.

Then we basically agree. If there is a ban, it should ban ALL face coverings in public.
