Can't we just have a processing centre on the Isle of White?

Or Jersey or something?

Canvey and Barry island too

What do you do with someone who's got no identification and refused asylum? Where can we send them to?

A fair point and one that is an issue with whatever processing system we adopt.

If the camps have a capacity of 500, we would need 3 more at least just to accommodate the ones that arrived in the last few days. Thats the scale of the problem.

The capacity is based on accommodation in buildings.

Field/emergency tents will do just fine.

The throughput should be rapid, and therefore never bulging.

After all, we were promised that the asylum/immigration system would be sorted.

Of course it won't though, just like it wasn't before.

Then folk wonder why Reform is polling so well.

There is an island off Scotland somewhere, where they tested anthrax many decades ago.

Might be safe now! :)

Working for food hey. It will never catch on 🙄

I'll be honest - I'm comfortable with a processesing centre - either on or offshore.

I imagine in and of itself that would be a deterrent.

I just wonder if it would end up costing us more than it's currently costing us at the moment? Surely this has been considered and costed as a possibility?

Aye.

It really is a struggle to grasp for some.

Asylum seeker/illegal immigrant is not equal to Political prisoner/prisoner of war/unermensch etc by horrible regimes.

Neither is their treatment.

I’m sure we already have them here. Manston? Not sure if they’re kept in or not.

I would have said ‘no way’ a few years ago, but we have to be realistic about where we are today.

The backlog has dropped but with hundreds arriving some days we are getting nowhere.

Everyone is dumped into hotels and hostels with no difference between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ applicants. This is causing issues in communities where they are housed. There is no chance to integrate, let’s be honest no one on here would be happy if a hotel by their house became a current hostel.

If we do nothing a Reform Govt becomes more of a reality, that alone should encourage real action.

Yeah that's where I'm at.

I've said this on here before. I genuinely don't think anybody is racist on here. But I do think that everybody has a different tipping point when it comes to immigration.

For some - that tipping point was years ago. For me - I'm nearing it now. For others or might be a few years down the line.

It's still early days for Labour and understanding whether their strategy pays dividends - but I can't see things changing significantly unless we do something more radical.

We do need to have an honest conversation about things though. Without the emotion. The fact is we do need skilled workers (and possibly none skilled workers) from abroad because we don't have enough babies as a country. But we need the checks and balances in place.

And I think the mood in the country (in general) would be generally supportive of more radical action. But maybe that's just because I'm nearing my own personal tipping point.

Yeah I think so. But it's not big enough or fit for purpose I don't think?

It was only designed to house people for 24 hours but they've ended up staying months...mmm

Nigel will sort it all out. He hasn't said how yet, but his followers massively approve of his ideas.

People are going to be in for a huge shock if they ever get in.

And currently, once again, with the current policies, you're wrong.

Better than just keep opposing every single thing, refusing to accept the size of the problem and accusing every single person who thinks it might slightly be a problem as racist.

You are the problem.

I'm not an elected politician mate. I have no influence whatsoever. So what are Nigel's plans?

We do have processing centres, but not enough capacity as the system is so slow and so many are arriving.

Hence the hotels to accommodate them in the meantime.

Numbers arriving won't change whilst they're getting top accommodation, medical treatment, food etc, and freedom to wander about.

Life of fucking Riley.

But yes, an island as far north as possible, an accommodation ship or whatever. Get it done, and get people their jobs back.

Nigel and every other party leader have 4 years to make their plans, Starmer doesn’t. he needs to start doing something quick

Jesus wept. If you think that's the "life of fucking Riley", I pity you for whatever conditions you live in.
