Just talking to my Kurdish barbershop owner bloke in town.

He had an Albanian lad through the books who's just left to start as Mrs just had a baby. Life on the sausage roll awaits for him and his Mrs.

The shop owner has had 4 different 'barbers' come in looking for work but with no documentation. My man won't take them on as it's a £30k fine if he's caught letting them work with no papers.

They all came from the recent influx currently housed in a hotel on the seafront, I forget its name.

On one hand I'd say surely they should be given some form of temporary papers so they can do a bit of work and put something back in.

But on the other they should face the same measures as everybody else and if they work they should have their benefits cut.

I'm not sure many of them would want to he fishing for work if their allowances were cut for doing so...

It's a tricky one.

Work, and if they refuse then every benefit they receive is stopped that day.

how many grams did you get?

The risk of giving them work, is that it becomes even more attractive to come.

They should be in sealed camps until they're processed.

Get that done quickly, ignore stupid appeals and decisions by ECHR judges, and fuck them off.

If they are going to be put to work, they must be doing something that the country isn't adequately achieving; for example clearing shit from the environment. Not doing something that could put people's jobs at risk.

That work should then be payment for their board and food whilst they're processed.

Sealed camps.

How quickly we forget.

Come on NIC, you're better than that

Debatable

TMG made some reasonable points but the minute I saw 'sealed camps' it cheapened his whole post imo.

What would be wrong with sealed camps?

Humanity has a long and sorry history of taking the short hop of interring people into camps who are in some way different to achieving an end goal of populist leaders. That's how 'camps' get started, initially it's the othering but done for their own 'benefit' and then once othered it's an easy path to take to either at best ignoring the issues, at worst actively putting people in them.

Even this language is troublesome. It also misses the point of processing humanly and correctly, finally being done to some decent measure after years of mismanagement.

I'm surprised you are even aware of this word given your idea of what constitutes discussion.

Or just rename the “camps” asylum sites

Another ‘populist’ comment. From the BBC’s coverage of the Casey report. Not easy to abuse if you’re ‘locked up’

‘The review also notes a significant proportion of live cases appear to involve suspects who are non-UK nationals or claiming asylum in the UK.’

This whole thing (illegal immigration) has been a mess for a decade and shows no sign of getting better despite the change in government.  Starmer/Labour have just 4 years left to fix it (and be seen to fix it to the satisfaction of a large proportion of the electorate).  If not then might as well give Farage/Reform the keys now, whether most of us like it or not.

They should lose all rights to that when they pay a smuggling gang £2k come here, ditch their papers along the way and pass through various safe countries in the process.

You crack on like they are Jews escaping persecution when they are part of an international crime racket here to get what they can.

Aren't they more like 'victims' of an international crime racket? I highly doubt they get the land of milk and honey they were expecting/promised.

Are Brits who take cocaine every weekend "part of an international crime racket"?

Over 1700 in the last seven days whatever they are.

Mate you’re talking to fkin idiots. In what world is it normal to allow undocumented folk into the country then allow them to just crack on and do what they like before they have been processed. What’s going through someone’s mind to make them think like that?

Being put up in a hotel with allowances and working down the local barbers/money laundering operation could well be the land of milk and honey.

Sure news would get back to the hundreds still coming every month if it wasn't.

Re the cocaine of course they are, whether it's been bought off Albanians or Martians. What the fuck has that got to do with anything.

Head in the sand folk with zero experience of real fucking life.

Again, the othering starts here, then it's talk of camps.

I'm just surprised how little people understand the inch by inch creep of how these things work, we've had enough warnings from history and I'm not just talking about concentration camps, but everything from St Brice's Day to the internment of Japanese Americans.

It's the boiling frog theory in full effect.

Labour are littleraly on about making asylum centres.

You're the one conflating TMGJs comment in to something it's not.

Talk about hysterical and knee jerk.

You sound ridiculous and kill any proper debate.

I’m still of the opinion that the first G7 country they arrive in should process them.

If they are genuinely fleeing war and imminent danger, surely a G7 country is a safe haven?

let them apply for asylum there and if genuine, I’m happy to take them.

There is no excuse whatsoever for keeping people who come on boats. None.

I don't think that anybody would dispute they are would they?  -  Supply and Demand innit - stop buying it, and it'll stop being sold...
