People have absolutely no idea how hard it is not to pay tax when you're self employed or a small business owner.

That ship sailed a long time ago.

Aye

Whilst I technically pay less than I did when I was employed, I now don't get paid holidays or sick leave or pension payments

I can't toss a day off sat at my desk hungover doing fuck all and still get paid

Or pull a sickie

It evens itself out I'm sure

I didn't go it alone to avoid tax either

You’re falling into the ‘Tradies’ rhetoric. A typical prejudiced view. Cash in hand and all that. There are many, probably the majority of small businesses, sat behind a computer as a director of a company paying themselves a  wage of less than £12,500 a year and paying little tax or NI.

I’ve been self employed 20 years. Never once had a cash in hand job. Had a bonus off a Russian in 500 euro notes which took me ages and a lot of hassle to change but that’s about it.

I was self employed for over 20 years. I was a sole trader as I’ve mentioned many times before. My income was my profit. Like you, no paid holidays etc. 90% of my income was invoiced. 9% card,  1% cash. I paid my tax and NI.
I have no problem with anyone doing it another way. Just don’t brag about it. Most don’t have the option.

Can someone explain how we actually fix the issue?

If say a thousand are arriving today, how many arrived in France, Spain or Italy? Does anyone know?

And if we are pissed off about it, how about the rest of continental Europe?

How on earth can this be "fixed"?

All European nations club together to constantly patrol the Mediterranean and build a big wall from the right hand side of Italy diagonally across to Russia

Of course but you absolutely know guys doing it. Down your local at 4pm every day sinking loads because their stated earn is enough for them, they already have their house and van sorted.

I am only showing the flip side of the coin that's all.

Of course there's loads like this, I see them myself. But nobody pays cash anymore, especially not in decent amounts.

Surely that's a good thing and you should be all for it? You're honest, so the banks trust you.

Of course. But this idea that 'tradies' are all on the take like its 1999 is for the birds.

HMRC know when you've been holiday they have access to trade accounts, they monitor everything. Connect came in a changed the whole landscape.

That's a lack of proper policing surely Jeff?

They don't have the resources and it's not that easy as far as I can see

Proving they are doing something criminal through to conviction isn't that easy, which is why "organised crime" has always existed and everyone knows about it but it takes a lot to clean it up

So far so I'm aware the police know all about it like everyone does but it's fallen to trading standards to get the shop shut down on other technicalities

And that takes time too

It's just a game of cat and mouse

Always had been with the mafia

You should see some of the scutters I live amongst, doing labouring jobs for cash only. Doubt many of them even have a birth certificate, never mind a mortgage. Get your head out of the clouds.

A Russian ? Was it Putin in your pocket ☺

What you’re struggling to grasp is people just making things up (lying) and someone using comparisons. Quite ironic we have one of the sites biggest bullshitters backing another. Who’d of thunk it hey.

Whatabout Whatabout 😄

Calling folk a liar because they got something wrong or said something a bit daft 😂Thanks for proving my point.

I’m struggling to grasp fck all. And I’m not backing NIC either. He’s quite capable of looking after himself 👍

Haha this last page or so is amazing to read.

Let's be honest lads, nothing is easy to resolve for sure and I don't claim to have the answers either.

And do they declare it or are you just assuming they pocket all the cash because they look a bit scruffy?
