The continuous doom loop.

As long as the state continues to do more and more, the public will take it, and do less and less.

I reckon the long term unemployed/lazy twats should have to undertake community work to get their benefits too.

Doom Loop seems to be cropping up a lot in economic circles.

A Labour Comms spokesperson said that it shows how well we are doing that Alton Towers are investing in new rides.

However, a widely cited report suggesting millionaires have been leaving Britain has been criticised for making unsubstantiated claims. The Financial Times said that the Wealth Migration Reports, published in association with Henley & Partners – a consultancy that markets schemes that sell passports and residency permits to the wealthy – had relied heavily on LinkedIn data to deduce someone’s tax residence.

There’s adults not feeding their kids. Now let’s assume these adults are receiving vouchers/benefits etc then what’s the excuse? Why aren’t they being fed?

Then that's neglect and the authorities should absolutely be taking action.

That's not the scenario you were describing though. You seemed to be advocating for taking kids away from patents who have either lost their job/lost their partner/fallen on hard times. Which I said was bonkers.

If they've lost their job/lost their partner/fallen on hard times and are being given support and STILL aren't feeding their kids. Then I'd agree with you.

Agree with all that.

Precisely what the benefit system is for.

Anyway, as a humorous aside, David Lammy has referred himself to DEFRA, and he forgot to buy a rod licence before he went fishing with his new mate, Vance.

Bought one since! :)

This. If there’s one thing this country is good at it’s giving things away. No kid should be going unfed.

Back to  Marrs interview. There’s something like 17k primary schools in the U.K. they’re feeding 750 with another 250 expected to be added by 2028. He’s right it should be on the front page as a farce, you can’t expect praise for feeding kids whilst leaving 1000s of others.

Marr also has form for showing his own political allegiance too.

He is of course entitled to do so- at least he left the BBC to allow those allegiances to flourish.

Where do you get the extra 250 by 2028 from ? I thought the plan was full roll out during this parliament.

I’m sure I read that somewhere. My bad if it’s not the case.

No worries as I read it the 750 is a trial to try different options and see what gets the biggest uptake prior to a full roll out.

Funding seems to be the big issue.

i like the idea as rather than giving money to the parents it is an incentive to go to school that goes straight to the kids.

A graph, a flag the right way up and bad economic news. Think I’ve covered everything.👍

I'm not going to even pretend to understand gilts, and whether an increase is good or bad news.

I presume it's bad in this instance? I just don't know how bad, or whether there's any other context or mitigating circumstances.

i mentioned a few weeks ago that the activity level in construction (my field) had slowed.

Just been reading the latest Glenigan Report (another quiet day in the office):

Year on Year as of 31st July:

Main Contract Awards down 39%

Detailed Planning Apps down 36%

Project Starts down 17%

Also interestingly in the housing sector, 64% of the starts in the last 3 months have been private (up 72%) but only 5% are social housing

You’re all in the wrong game.

Just secured a job for 4,000 air source heat pump installs 💰

The FTSE is still riding high.

Gilts musnt bother the trading lads too much.

After 50 years I think it's a bit late to get involved in the latest bubble. I don't give stuff on a personal level but bread and butter construction is a big economical driver.

Been suspecting construction could be in recession for a while with labour agencies and old contacts phoning me almost daily and jobs being shelved.

Every time I see Reeves on the telly she's got a hard hat perched on her nut and is spouting on out getting Britan building... and then Angie is going on about building affordable homes, these to me are "social housing" but only counted counted for 5% of starts last quarter. Her planning relaxations are just giving private developers green lights (64% of starts).

The stats don't support the policies we supposedly have in place. The tool makers son had better get grip with what's going on at home rather swanning around making financial pledges we ain't going to be able to afford.

Fuck it, I'll stick with retirement

What hasn't other than illegal immigrant boat arrivals?

Vote for aspiration killers and get what you deserve. How many entrepreneurs and job creators have they been able to drive out? "Power to the people!".

I suspect that Reeves is spending more time on a shrinks sofa than doing anything constructive. Surely she's on borrowed time?

She could help solve the water shortage with all those tears.

If the doom mongers and naysayers are to be believed, you'll need to go back to work as there'll be no money in the pension pots when labour pinch it all.

Inflation up again. Expected to rise to 4% next month. (average earnings could be higher) That means the pension rise next year will rise by the same amount. (Other benefits will also rise by the same amount) Hope Rachel has all this covered along with the huge increase in borrowing costs.

i'm sure she hasn't

in fact, im not sure she knows where to start

and until we see tax rises or bump off some folk who aren't putting in but taking out a lot, its not going to get better

I don't doubt that she is, but they won't get rid of her before this next budget, as taxes will have to rise, so they'll let her do that, and then I'd expect a reshuffle, and see her out of the job before Christmas

She is following a system that has been proven flawed since Gordon Brown introduced fixed targets and his golden rule.

Her decision to slash costs to meet her fixed targets will be her downfall; her projections are based on forecasts of economic growth and debt which are not fixed in any way leading to a house of cards effect by heaping assumptions onto other assumptions. I think it was the Institute of Fiscal Studies who said that a slavish adherence to a fiscal target is not a very sensible approach.

Coupled with a very negative overall government outlook at the beginning of her term and the hike in Employers NI and confidence has been sapped away. I think I said she should have been down the road several months ago.

if she doesn't have her fiscal targets the markets don't like it

so, how do you propose she deals with that

not some text book response, a real world one based on the (sad) fact the markets control what government can do

There are now more people taking out than paying in.

Paying for 14 years of incompetence will take time. And money.

Inflation hit 10% under the Tories, just as a reminder. And I recall their support base saying that was all perfectly acceptable under the prevailing circumstances.
