A very dark day for British democracy, extremists on the left and right with their false promises. Sectarianism and "family voting" widespread.

We will now see after the May elections a leadership challenge with the excereable Starmer being replaced by someone worse from the so called "soft left". In reality left wing extremists driving any remaining manufacturing into oblivion and bankrupting our pubs, restaurants and cafes.

All achieved already with right wing and centre right politics for the last 16 or so years.

Not forgetting all the British industry sold off to foreign companies since Maggie's time.

I see the Greens are being accused of sectarianism, what does this relate to ?

From the Jewish leader or the Muslim deputy or the white woman deputy or from Hannah herself?

Aye, because the Labour movement was brought about with the intention of destroying industry and manufacturing

The clue is in the name.

@bolty58 would have you believe this as well.....

Hopefully this result shows there is more opposition than support for Reform. But people are crying out for a viable alternative so instead of reacting to Reform and letting Nigel pull their strings Lab and Cons can focus on that.

Unfortunately can just see infighting taking over.

I agree, the main 2 parties are a disaster at the minute, the fact that the Greens won last night and some Welshists won in Caerphilly (another seat held by Labour for about 100 years) shows that people are looking for a political home. These upcoming May 7th elections will be interesting, I think Reform will do quite well.....but I think they'll more likely tail off as we get closer to a GE. They're OK as a bit of a protest vote, but surely nobody wants that set of grifting cunts running the country

The ad targeted at Muslim voters with Starmer shaking hands with the Indian PM could be argued to be

Even if not sectarian, I think it's a dangerous thing for a political party to engage in

There's been violence between Muslims and Hindutva supporters on British streets in recent years, and rising tensions between India and Pakistan internationally, and it's difficult to think that signalling wasn't intentional

Well, Reform and Labour have said they're the problems to everything so who else would they realistically vote for?

Fair enough, had not seen that.

So who were you hoping would win the seat?

If I was a constituent of Gorton and Denton I would have voted Conservative.

For me the least worst outcome would have been a Labour win, then Reform, but the worst possible outcome in my opinion is a Green win.

It was a by-election in a tiny seat. What exactly do you think the Green's are going to do that's so frightening?

I genuinely can't see the Greens picking up anything like this kind of support at the next GE.

In fact I'd be amazed.

Mind you - I've been amazed plenty of times by the voting public over the past 10 years or so.

All the local Muslim men got together and forced their wives and daughters to vote for a woman led by a gay Jew. It's really obvious when you think about it...

Why if you don't mind me asking?  I don't know the local candidate but let's be honest most people vote for a party usually anyway. What is the Tory party offering that would make you vote for them over the others?

They be like every other local electorate. They’ll ask for nowt and get fuck all.

Yes, and my point was Green were the only party to remotely appeal to that community. I don't particularly agree with their methods either, but getting the vote this time was straightforward.

I have an old friend on FB who now posts nothing but shite from some "Farage for PM" group and has gone from a nice funny woman to full on racist. She's just posted an AI picture of a brown Muslim bloke holding up the new Green MP like a little puppet. Classy.

Have you? Can you simplify it a bit for thickos like me?

Starmer has properly fucked it though; appealing to the Reform base, failing to do so and consequently losing a core demographic to the Greens.

Gone by May, and it'll be for the best.
