August 20, 20178 yr I think people want to look at Kenny rather than Parky. It's almost irrelevant who the manager is given the budget there is to work with Don't agree. Last year PP showed how he can grind out results, that's what our entire season is going to be about
August 20, 20178 yr A mate of mine bumped into Parky in Windermere today. He told PP that we were all behind him to which PP replied 'That's good to hear. Don't worry - I'll get it right soon'. Stopped for a photo and seemed a decent bloke.
August 20, 20178 yr Don't agree. Last year PP showed how he can grind out results, that's what our entire season is going to be about Last season we were grinding out results against total shit. There's a lot more uplift in this league and grinding it out every week won't be enough. We need a manager who can out think his opponent or players with a little bit of flair. Ideally both but good management will be enough. He deserves our backing
August 21, 20178 yr Very early days yet. I would remind people of us once being top of the PL after 3 games and look what happened there! Confident PP will get it right and we will end up as mid table also-rans which will suit me just fine in our first season back at our true rightful level.

That last bit is disappointingly non aspirational from you Bolty! Any team in the top flight is there on merit. Who knows in a few years we might be back there, with kevin Nolan (Sam's protege) at the helm, and a thirty two year old harry Kane leading the line!

August 21, 20178 yr Not read the full thread as I hate when we loose (as I know you all do, well most anyway) It was boys against men and the difference is purely down to finance.
August 21, 20178 yr It was boys against men and the difference is purely down to finance. Not defending properly has nothing to do with finance.
August 21, 20178 yr Not defending properly has nothing to do with finance.heard to much blaming the embargo on Saturday, sloppy defending and bad set up can't be used on that

August 21, 20178 yr Must be a stat some where about going long to madine. Whilst we spent passing side to side and backwards we'd normally be going long to madine. Definitely a reduction in long ball tactics Edited August 21, 20178 yr by Eavesy

August 22, 20178 yr That last bit is disappointingly non aspirational from you Bolty! In line with others' comments on the state of the game (most recently updated with Neymars new and crazy weekly pay), outside of our own beloved club, I find it very difficult to love the English game as I used to. The excess has fucked the game for me and I completely understand why folk gravitate towards non league football for that true fix which we Bolton fans are lucky enough to experience from time to time (end of last season for example). I used to watch the Blue Square Premier league down here when Foxtel had it and loved it while it lasted. Blokes turning up to play in Mini's and Yaris', getting stuck in with standing crowds eating pies at half time rather than the Lamborghini and prawn sandwich set of the Premier League. So, to address your non-aspirational comment, I truly believe that the size of our town and our 'drawing power' means that perfection for us would be to come 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th in the Championship every year; get the odd trip to Wembley every 2 or 3 years and put together some great Cup runs. Heaven. Leave the Premier League to other silly cunts who seek the 'holy grail' only to find out in 1-10 years that the fall from grace can get very close to sending your club to the wall and destroying much of what you hold dear. Rather than 'non aspirational', I would call this view 'optimistic realism'.
August 22, 20178 yr Weird isn't it, I hate what the Premiership has become but I want us to get there.
August 22, 20178 yr If I thought we couldn't get in the top league, I'd pack it in Exactly. Try telling Huddersfield fans down at Palace on the opening day that it's a 'bubble' that isn't real football. I don't get the whole uproar towards how much PSG paid for Neymar, it's not like we would ever have signed Neymar, we weren't in there with a £20m bid and then PSG came and blew us out of the water with £200m. It's irrelevant whether it was £200m or £50m. For me it just drops in to the category of 'top clubs pay a lot for the best players in the world'. We never have nor ever will be in that market so i don't get worked up about how much rich clubs now pay each other for a player.

He's a class player and will win games on his own. I am bothered about Sam clucas going for 16.5m. Average players with astronomical price tags is off putting.

No, I'll wait until they are plummeting and then remind them of their brief flirtation with heady days and refuse to put into their survival collection tin. Most tight fisted bastards I have ever worked with. Edited August 22, 20178 yr by bolty58

Average players with astronomical price tags is off putting. Fair point mate but that's now market price, and the only reason that it is is because clubs can afford to do that. Prem clubs got a 40% increase in tv revenue with the new deal. In very loose terms that means that paying £14m for a player this year is the same as £10m last, and when you look at the increases since we were last there, £16m for Clucas probably isn't too far off us paying £4-5m for somebody who we considered average.
