leigh white Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Seeing a young Neil Fisher playing in a pre season at Flixton for the youth, and coming on as a sub for the first team and scoring on his debut, and then it just petered out. Quote

leigh white Posted April 28, 2019 Author Posted April 28, 2019 An FA cup tie at Tranmere had me puzzled with the line up that day, more youth than ever, and we still scraped a draw. Quote
Mounts Kipper Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 David Hoggan, left U.K. to early had everything, had good career in U.S. also Mike Carter, both were victims of BWFC being shit and us getting relegated in 1980. Quote

That was one shit season, going loads of away games just for the crack and a small gang winding the home fans up . Quote

Was only thinking about carter earlier High points, away at city and a goal v spurs, I think, at burden Brookman should've made more of his chance Quote
Dr Faustus Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 My next door neighbour was married to Brian Smith; too you to remember myself, but I was told he was good, and never really fulfilled his potential, for various reasons. Quote
Breightmet Boy Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Paul Booth. Captained England schoolboys at Wembley v Scotland as well as played in others, was invited for matches by clubs everywhere. Old class mate, gutted it never worked for him Quote
Take Hunt Off Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Andy Clements played for York City should have had a better career Chris Duffy /Jimmy Redfern/Mike Carter/Nicky Brookman/Phil Wilson/Chris Thompson /Stuart Lee The list is endless. Quote

All action midfielder, played few games the season we got relegated, moved to play for Bournemouth which I though was strange move as he did ok in season we got relegated out of the top flight, another who suffered because we were shite after the relegation in 1980. kent_white Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 There's three players in my lifetime that on first watch I've thought would go on to become truly world class. Two were Jack Wilshere and Andres D'Alessandro and the other was Phil Foden. Doesn't bode well for Phil Quote
Dr Faustus Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Jermaine Johnson anyone? think I’ve got that right Quote

Saw glimpses of a player in some of our PL and league cup games. Wonder what he's up to now, seem to remember him doing half decent in lower leagues. Quote
MickyD Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 (edited) Andy Kellett. Came in towards the end of season a few years ago as a wing back. Did alright. Then sold to Wigan and in to who-knows-where. Yet another who came through the junior setup and didn't really get a chance. Yet another who would have played for the shirt rather than the coin. wakey Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 (edited) There were loads from the 1980 relegation season and the following couple of years. Many looked the mutts nuts when they first got into the side *, but most didn't seem to fulfil potential. Weird looking back on it when you consider the number of experienced pros we had during those years that the blend never seemed to work. * not Roger Walker - he just looked crap. Sure I remember a Roger Walker diving header that effectively cleared our goalbound effort off the line. My admittedly dodgy memory has it akin to the 1986 world cup v Argentina goal line clearance for "how the fuck" -ness. Edited April 29, 2019 by wakey Quote
Biggish Dave Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Had a few who were banging in goals for the stiff - Harsanyi or whatever he was called, morini, Samazadeh etc Quote

Mounts Kipper Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 One from recent times who should have made done better was Vaz Te, I suppose injuries played a big part for him, that goal at Guimaires was quality. Quote
