April 29, 20197 yr We seem to have a whole raft of players who came to us as the next big thing and then their career just nose dived. Steve McAnespie is an example. Edited April 29, 20197 yr by Walkden White

Old class mate, gutted it never worked for him I work with Boothy if it's the same one... I think he has the record for most appearances for the reserves without playing for the 1st team.

April 29, 20197 yr I chose him as a counter to Youri in my nickname not necessarily because he's the shitest I've seen (especially these past years) but more because we paid Raith £600k for the shit b*stard.

Didn’t he play for us once in a really shitty 0-0 home game against Swansea Div 4. Freezing tits off kind of day. He was wank that day iirc unfortunately poor lad
April 29, 20197 yr We had another lad around at a similar time - Paul Allen I think he was called. Scored against burnley in the freight rover trophy - game got abandoned due to fog at half time so his goal was scrubbed from the record books. Not sure he played again

It was more like £900k. I had a friend who was a Raith fan & they couldn't believe that we paid that much for him at the time. Raith built a new covered end from the proceeds & he used to go on some of the away trips when he was back in Kirkcaldy. They called him Danger Mouse because of the uncanny similarity! Danger Mouse was probably a better full back 😀

April 29, 20197 yr Macenespie had to be rescued from Hurricane Katrina. You’ll all sleep tonight knowing that What was that Turkish fella called around 2002 ? Didnt we get another foreign player who was rumoured to be the Paulo Rossi, or meant to be the next world class midfielder ? Can’t think of his bloody name.

April 29, 20197 yr Tom Thorpe seems to be finished after a few games in India. Seem to recall Allardyce saying something along the lines of “I can’t believe Newcastle have paid £5m for Jermaine Jenas when I’ve paid a fraction of the fee for the same player in Gerald Forschelet”. I don’t think he played a game for us.

April 29, 20197 yr Around the time Neil Fisher made his goal scoring debut we had a young full back Darren Oliver who was given a chance. He looked pacy and comfortable on the ball. After a handful of games he went to Rochdale and was gone from there in under a year. Fine lines between those who make a career and those who just drift out of the game.
April 29, 20197 yr I can't for the life of me remember his name but a foreign fella who bagged a couple for us when we were away at Doncaster in the FA Cup, first time at their new ground. Also great shout for vaz te, had all the ability the lad just couldn't run, and I mean that in a literal sense, he ran wrong
April 29, 20197 yr ^ Andranik Teymourian? I'm trying to remember the left back Bruce Rioch trialled from Milan. Not sure whether we ever signed him
