Mental Health/Depression

For those that questioned why I didn’t attend the game last Saturday, this was why. My daughter asked me to go to the Pride parade with her, have a few drinks, a meal, and generally have a catch up on her life and her website project. She doesn’t live with me so I don’t see her that often so face to face time is very valuable

I’ve highlighted one particular part of her social media post from today. That is a nod to WWays. She was stunned by the response from here. I thank all of you that contributed feedback once again for your support.......

As some of you may remember, a year ago I set up a website that allows people to submit and share their personal stories regarding mental health, encouraging people to use their voice and realise that they're not going through this alone.

The response I received was absolutely insane. That insane in fact, that I shut it down after a few months as I couldn't cope with managing the website alongside my own mental health.

But now I'm back 💥 I'm in a better place with my mental health, I'm currently in the process of purchasing my first home, and next week I start my dream job as a Teaching Assistant in a special educational needs school.

So I've decided to relaunch my project. A website where you can anonymously submit your mental health story, in the form of poetry, short stories, song lyrics, or simply anything that expresses you.

I know im posting about going away in a mental health thread. But looking forward to it, not been a good 14 months, owd fella was diagnosed with vascular dementia oct 22 and died in hospital last Jan of heart failure. First Xmas without him. I'd already booked for last Xmas before he was diagnosed, my sister forced me to go. He had a meltdown on Xmas day, I had to what's app video him to reassure him. Wouldn't wish it an anyone. Trying to stay positive but know Xmas day is gonna hard, feeling it already, up & down. Just gonna do my best to give wife and lad a good day. Hopefully not over served by 8pm like last year 🤭 Tbf I was on the beach with a 4 pack of Mahon at 10.30 after breakfast.

Positive side is in The Embankment on Sat and Boxing Day!

Loads of mental health issues back in the day but it was never spoken about and brushed under the carpet, great that there isn’t the stigma now there was back then. Next time @bolty58 over be worth trying to meet for beer/meal and see if we can get Miami to turn out.

That would be a good. 👍

Think winter sun helps

when you go work in the dark get home in the dark

wet and grey all day is shit

Why people go away in June July Aug

Get away Nov Dec or the Full month of Jan

Agree.

Thats why I try to get out of here as much as I can in winter months.

Exercise is important but not everyone has the free time to do it daily.

The UK is grim, mainly though due to the awful climate.

Absolutely.

Makes a big difference with a bit of sunshine.

We went to Benalmadena one January just for a few days. Wall to wall winter sun. I was surprised at the number of pensioner types on coffees n brandys at 9 in the morning. Fron then on I wanted a cnb every morning in the sun when I retired. Then a chinaman bit a bat and the rest is history.

When the kids were young we went every year in either Jan or Feb.

Paloma Park & Tivoli World were great.

Happy memories.

Absolutely tip top. I'm lucky. I take after my mum and am one of those who never suffers no matter how much shite is thrown at me. And by christ there's been a lot over the last couple of years

Fuck me that didn’t age well. Mrs Manc’s auntie went to Oz to see her daughter for Xmas and had a massive stroke and died. Last week my best mate died aged 61. Not unexpected but a real fucking sledgehammer blow. Feel a bit “tested” to say the least

It’s a funny thought process this.

We should be hotwired to think sleep, exercise, breakfast, work, lunch, work, tea/dinner, relax, sleep.

(or a permutation of this)

Exercise is the elixir of life and most folk choose to avoid it. Crazy.

Also think folk in this country should be planning their main holidays in the sun for the winter time and not the typical May-Sept period. Get that Vit D fix and some winter enjoyment.

All so true, not sure whether its just our culture or society but we dont half make life difficult for ourselves.

Stupid things like not drinking enough water. Dehydration is such a big trigger of anxety and such like. Went a couple of days last week barely drinking any at work and wondered why I felt on edge and sluggish.

My Mrs is basically never outside but every time she comes on a walk she loves it and clears the soul. But the next day its a boxset and heating on full belt.

Subtle changes to lifestyle make the world of difference.

.....talk a good game me, Ive got my eye on a pint after lads footy and will feel like death tomorrow.

Where is good towards the end of March Traf? That has a decent single person supplement! 😁

its all about time and routine

when I worked 9-5 (or more than likely 8-6 most days) my option was to go for a run at night

which i tried to do, but couldn't guarantee becuase when i got home after 7 it was hard to motivate myself, particulary in winter, and often would end up doing nothing at all but lounging around

now i work for myself and manage my own schedule, I do exercise before lunch, then work the rest of the day, and very often of an evening

i never want to ever do exercise in the evening ever again, and won't

happily do work though, as it's my own work, no way i'd work an evening for someone else

fittest i've ever been, and probably the most productive too

fuck the rat race

I'm an old codger of 60 and recently retired and did just that. Our next is end of September for two weeks. All paid for and mostly Euro'd up.

That's the good part, the not so good part is that I retired from a job I love and miss to fuck, but at nearly 70 it was time to go.

I’ve been down beach today, lovely 22-23c but my lad just sent me picture of my parents and uncle aunts old houses (all now passed)and I’ve gone into a state of melancholy and all after having lovely few days in the sun… mental health’s mad innit.

Aye. Difficult one. Lived on his own in a flat in Solihull. Had “multiple health problems” and was found dead by the carers so the coroner has had to get involved delaying everything. I’m the link to all his mates from Bolton and uni so having to deal with a lot. Finding it all really weird. With my Dad and my Sister I sort of went into automatic mode. With him it’s knocked me completely sideways for some reason that I can’t explain
