This won’t be popular

Ive not had a drink since the Sunderland game, and I feel loads better.

we all know alcohol doesn’t help, but I’ve just never had the inclination to stop.

Now that I have, I’m not sure I want to start again. I didn’t realise how shit it was making me feel.

Rochdale match will be the first real test...

I didn’t have a beer for 3 months last summer and in the middle of it I encountered the worst bout of shite I’ve ever had, suicidal thoughts the lot.

Beer and the sesh is a major trigger don’t get me wrong but It’s not the cause for me. In a weird way I find bouts easier to deal with if I’ve had a mad weekend or whatever because I know it’ll pass and it’s that what’s triggered it. It’s when in comes out of the blue and I’ve been living like a gym bunnie that pisses me off the most.

I've typed loads of replies in this thread and never clicked submit but what miami said yesterday has finally made me do it.

About 20 years ago I was really struggling and circumstances meant that even though I was ashamed and embarrassed I had to tell someone very close to me that I had gone on the sick with stress - I actually was on sick with stress but that was really because I couldn't tell the doctor what was actually going on and the easy way out was to label it as stress. The person close to me I told replied with "You're pathetic" and I never spoke about it for another 20 years to anyone.

Not understanding what someone is going through but not judging them and supporting them regardless with their problems is a brilliant thing, and regardless of them being family it's not always going to be an easy thing.

Even though to this day I honestly still feel shame and embarrassment about it I've made sure my eldest kids know all my issues because should the time come I want them to know that the support will be there and it's better to get help than go it alone.

Stress kills. Don’t let anyone tell you any different. It’s an awful thing to deal with and when it starts interrupting your sleep it’s a slippery slope. I had everyone telling me I had the best job in the world but behind the scenes I was losing my mind because it was so stressful, I was too afraid to ask for help because I thought it was a weakness, throw in buying a new house and a baby coming into my world it’s a wonder I didn’t burst.
Talking to someone, exercise, healthy eating and doing something that will make me laugh, watching comedy shows helped me. Doesn’t help for everyone I would imagine but two doctors have told me the same.

A good point that. Laughter.

It strange because at times it can be physically difficult to smile and laugh. Muscles in the face go wobbly.

At that point you know for sure you're suffering a bit.

Need to break out from that as you say, and try to get normality resumed.

Fuckin ell that really hits home.

have to a lot of fake smiling in my job. Late  last year right in the middle of it I went out with a few old pals and I honestly got cramp in My face. Wasn’t used to laughing.

Madness really

So the thing we have in most have in common is we have battled with mental health and we’re all Wanderers fans.

I blame megson.
Before him my team were 6th in the Prem, I was spending money on Adidas trainers, beer and other things 😁, trying to finger birds in Ikon , living for the weekend and a cheeky Thursday night razz.

Now I’m picking out wallpaper patterns with our Maude spending money on nappies and rusks and watching moon and me with the sprog and Ikon is rubble.

Fuckin megson.

Jokes aside this thread is one I really enjoy reading and I genuinely think helps. I think we should all meet up and have a one flew over the cuckoos nest scenario.

Right I was feeling a bit left out so I went to the docs and got myself some citalopram. Been a weird couple of months - loads going on and have just felt like I was spiralling downhill.

Been taking them for 4 days now and it feels like I've been twatted around the head. Dizzy, nauseous and can't sleep. Had to have a day off work for the first time in about 6 years today - mainly due to these side effects. How long does it last?

Worst recommendation from WW since Miami told me to sing red flag at that Skrewdriver gig :)

Not sure if you're joking or not!

Thought you'd had citalopram before.

When I first started on citralopram was on 20mg, later 30mg, and felt shit for about a week .

In that time thought if i took it before going to bed then the shit feeling would happen whilst asleep but just woke up feeling like I'd had a session with Richard Burton

I'd only gone to the docs to keep my other half happy and got asked about I'd there was any trigger points. Could only think of being a bolton fan

Half joking - but not about the meds. Had citalopram a long time ago and they helped then - remember feeling rough at first last time too but nowt like this! Been dry retching most of the day. There's a lovely thought to take to bed with you! :)

I had desert gob and I couldn't sleep for a week or two. I wasn't sleeping well before but on it i slept a little less, maybe an hour if lucky 😂

It did its job in the end though. Think i was on it for 2 months should have been longer but doctor messed up my prescription. Couldn't be arsed having to make another appointment. No jizzing issues, I beat my PB during those heady days.

Took me about 2-3 weeks till I got used to taking them Kent. The very first time I’ll be honest was horrible. Felt like I’d had an E every time I had one for a few days. Seemed to be getting worse through the first week and very nearly gave up. Its just your body dealing with all this new serotonin.

Ride it out pal, you’ll end up where you won’t even know your on them. Obviously you know but that’s why they’re so effective, they’re proactive rather than reactive once the sides die down. They just stimulate your receptors to bring you to the same levels as everyone else.

Take them exactly the same time every day.

If that doesn’t work stop being a massive fanny and man up. You soft bastard.

I've tried taking sertraline at different times.

Eventually, one of the psycho doctors, told me quite categorically to take it in the morning, after food. Makes sense I suppose.

Always do now.

Saw that about him calling Good Morning Britain  racist for asking him on the show to discuss the racism in the England game, he’s sounded like a bit of a plank there. Called himself the token black guy for being asked about it.

One, he’s black, two he was a footballer, three he  now works in the media. Seems like a perfect guest to have on to discuss the issue, the wife beating wanker.

They never ask him on to talk about football though. I think that's his point. And he didn't call GMB racist, he said it was an example of Institutional Racism. Which it probably is. If there were racist chants about white footballers, who would they ask to come on and talk about it?

It doesn't sit easy with me when people unaffected by the issue start criticising the actions of those who are. I don't understand it, because I'm not a target of racism, so I keep my mouth shut when someone who is talks about it.

Yeah but which black footballers do they ask on? It’s either Ian Wright or John Barnes. He’s got a huge chip on his shoulder and made an issue about himself when he could use his platform to further highlight the problem of racism in football.
He seemingly is a good fit to be asked.
And he’s still a wanker.

Who is it they usually get on to talk about football instead on this non football themed show?

the answer is nobody. There Endeth his arguement.

It's entirely up to Stan Collymore what he does or doesn't do. Why should he be the go-to spokesperson for black footballers, whether he's a wanker or not? Because YOU think he's a good fit?

Why ask a black ex-footballer on then? Why not a black person who isn't involved in football, seeing as football isn't the fucking issue?
