Was speaking to an experienced account manager/sales rep type this morning and he's been back out on the road since the start of October. One thing he seems to be hearing more and more from the folk he visits is that they wish they had carried on trading and not shut up and used the furlough scheme, some can't see how they will ever get the trade back that they've lost to larger shops/online retailers.

Re home schooling, it sounds like a good idea until you have to try and do your own job and also educate your kids

I've found a real split with those that I've visited, some are glad they took the Furlough option (and cheap loans option) and some wish they hadn't - I know some who didn't use it and wished they had, and some who used it and wished they didn't.

Some that shut up shop here have lost business to China now that they'll probably never get back, and they'll admit they jumped the gun and went down the Furlough route much too quickly

A company I know very well have proper milked it, they furloughed 50% of their staff, and their business levels didn't really drop, they just worked those in the office to the bone. They also had staff in working who were supposed to be on furlough.......apparently they've had a few phone calls since, and think that somebody has grassed them up, which I hope they have. They also took advantage of getting a huge loan at really good rates, to pay off their overdraft and get up to date with outstanding invoices. They're far better off now than they were 6 months ago, which is annoying.

It needs to be a simultaneous lockdown across the UK to be most effective.

I agree, it's nuts that us, the porridge-wogs and the Welshists are all doing different things at different times - if there was ever a time to be a "united Kingdom" this would be it, it seems that it's actually going the other way

Think 2 groups have been sent home from my lad's place. Perhaps just a bit unlucky, at yours, but still time for more elsewhere I suppose.

I've got a mate who lives in Astley Bridge - has a son about 8, and one who's 13. Think they both go to school in Turton

Both at home, both on their 2nd spell. He says the virtual learning for the 8 year old is much more difficult for the parents, the 13yr old just can get on with it on hs own.

Stay united by not going into unnecessary lockdowns

Crack on until a vaccine Is produced. If you have it, stop in.

Doesn't really help those who catch it and need hospital treatment though

And if you crack on, those numbers will increase significantly

Then the NHS will collapse because it won't be able to cope

And you'll end up with loads of excess deaths

I'd always take the short term view over the long term view

Yes, the economy may get bummed for years to come but we don't know what's around the corner

Brexit may be the land of milk and honey it waa promised allowing our economy to recover quickly

Or maybe all the countries badly affected wiill come together to help each other out, like some global administration

Or maybe covid 21 will be twice as deadly, maybe because we fucked around with covid 19 and didn't sort it properly

Who knows

Here and now though, best to keep those numbers down, for everyone's sake

Fucking lots of other lives over is though

Theres no right way through this but if Bozo said let's crack on, I'd support him

This is thoroughly depressing

A short circuit breaker now may avert a much longer lockdown later.

There are no guarantees unfortunately but just cracking on is not an option IMO.

Perhaps peely can answer this why are we seeing ICU beds running out now when we have a relatively low number of deaths compared to April/May.

If you are infected and recover you may still use an ICU bed for several weeks.

My uneducated guess is that if their are less deaths, there are more surviving

Which means needing treatment for longer

People dying frees up beds

We did it in April/May, didn’t even need the nightingales.

Because there were more deaths

And we didn't crack on, we had a lockdown of sorts

By the skin of our teeth.

The cost were many other hospital admissions being stopped and seriously stretched resources.

We can't use that as a control strategy.

We never even used the nightingales so wasn’t that skin of the teeth.
