this settles the debate gents 👍🏼
@radcliffewhite1 you wouldn’t get anymore than stat sick pay or what your own employer usually pays  in the scenario you speak of

What about people who have closed offices told their staff to work from home but some of those staff have kids who now are at home and they are single parents with primary school aged kids?

You might not like me but this is a genuine question. We are dealing with this right now, no idea what we do for staff in this position.

So if anyone has a suggestion? Is this covered by today’s announcement?

An alarming upwards trajectory, a few spikes, then it starts to dip

It may well be an accurate forecast

Though I'm concerned by the venn diagram represented by the cloud, what with it being grey

This is down to individual workplace, we have just been issued a document about how to work with this, basically kids come first and if you need to work later in the evening so be it. No client calls with parents in the team between 12-2 and 4-6. Calls after if it’s ok with everyone else.

Basically, businesses are asked to understand the government is asking something of every individual. You can’t get the boot if you have to look after kids, and if the business is struggling to pay your wage because of it, they can get the 80% grant. Or interest free loan.

Less than 200 people died and 70 million locked down heart disease takes more out

That’s a heath issue - not a pandemic, it’s chalk and cheese I’m afraid

Precisely the Sort of idiotic remark which will look even more idiotic in a few weeks I’m convinced of it.

I have no idea how bad this will get. But what I do know is that our government and that of all the developed nations in the world are not effectively cutting the bollocks off their economies because of a runny nose that’s kicking about. That tells me this is the most serious challenge we will face in any of our life times. Not necessarily because we will all die but because of the economic and social prices we will pay to limit the damage it’s going to cause.

if I had to put a number on it completely finger in the air I reckon we will see 15/20k deaths in the UK attributable to this disease This year.

do I think I’m at risk health wise? Nah. Do I think it will kill my mum if she gets it? 100% and I would rather avoid that if I’m honest

Have you the trajectory on the post by Zico. The experts are saying if we lose less than 20k will be a result. Think about 1% of world in UK. So that would be 2m deaths.

How many in a years time?

How many in hospital on a ventilator in those 12 months?

It's a lot, isn't it

The Times now talking about this going on for 12 months

Notice the BBC News have a new graph with a wavy line over 12 months rather than ‘squashing the sombrero’ over 3

You can clearly see how they have drop fed this stuff out slowly over a week or so rather than just petrify the nation in one hit

I recon it’s a lockdown (Relative) until Xmas job this, it’s going to be as much about mental as physical health by the time we get to the back end of this

Edited by birch-chorley

Imagine our average crowd just keeling over and dying

Like we did under Anderson

Your scenario is what they are frantically trying to avoid. I honestly think by doing what we are doing we will avoid that. I think we will be locked down like this and then let back out for a bit and then locked down again and repeat til we have it somehow under control.

Vulnerable people are not getting their lives back this side of new year that’s for sure and that’s a sobering thought especially for folk in their last years. Very very sad

Won’t see my old man then, he’s already been on lock down for 2 weeks

It was 5.5 thousand 6 days ago

Not sure but it’s probably about 0.00007 definitely more people being born every day than dying obviously if you loose a loved one it’s the end of the world to that person  we all know that . Don’t think we should destroy the economy and the world for it the way some people are reacting

Edited by Farnywhite

You will reach a point where lots of people have recovered.  So 20k deaths = 400k recovered.

Do you understand how exponential growth works?

Go on then ? World population goes up by 220,00 per day

Viruses grow exponentially. This virus is transmitted to roughly 3 people from every 1 that is infected.

Patient 1 infects 3 people. A few days later patient 2,3,4 infect 3 people each, so now you've got 13 infected. A few days later patient 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13 infect 3 people each, so now you have 31 infected, and so on. That's exponential growth.

If a virus infects more than 1, it carries on infecting everyone until enough people in the herd have immunity to stop it.

The virologists estimate this virus needs to infect around 66%-80% of the world population before it stops.

What % of the earth population do you think its infected so far?
