They can only test NHS staff and people going into hospital/in hospital.

If that's below the amount available, testing numbers will fall..

All care staff with symptoms are now offered a test too

although saying that my sister is a carer in the private sector and her company has not made her aware which is shocking in my opinion.

My cousin is a carer as well and she hasn’t been tested. These people need testing ASAP

Just to clarify, only if showing symptoms, and we have to go to The Etihad, which is a ballache for carers on public transport

I'd wager a large portion of carers don't drive and can't get to Manchester Airport

Brazil's president sounds like a right cunt, he's actually joining in their anti lockdown protests

He’s a racist homophobic sexist lunatic. He very much splits opinion in Brazil because he’s hellbent on fixing crime which he has done some good work but his moral views are quite controversial.
He’s caused a rift in the Brazilian national team, half the squad support him half don’t, so there has been some infighting.

Cheers. I asked her out of interest at weekend if she had been tested but she said no. I didn’t go into it. But yes it’s a long way for folk and plus I’m not sure when she would find time as her boss I don’t think is an overly sympathetic individual

If we were struggling for ventilators you might have a point.

As it is, we've plenty on order, some delivered and the hospitals doing admirably after the British public largely bought into social distancing.

Perhaps, given the EU's shafting of Italy early doors, our lot thought "fuck that for a game of soldiers".

Who the fuck knows, it's just good that we've sourced them from anywhere that can supply them.

That's not really the point.

They lied and took a political decision which could have cost lives.

The fact it hasn't is more down to luck than anything.

I agree that the EU response for Italy was very poor also.

well... it didn't work out anyway..

Hindsight is a great thing but this was a politically motivated decision and attempted cover up.

Neither was it a good decision to send a load of PPE to China in February because we didn't realise the scale of this pandemic.

Sound about right for the private care sector.

Think there's another testing station at AJ Bell stadium which is a bit nearer to Bolton.

Limited to 100 tests a day, both of them

They were in dire need of them, we weren't..

They have sent them all back alongside more.. as they mentioned in the briefings..

For clarity is she or someone in her household symptomatic?

If she is, and is able to get a slot, her boss would be mental not to let her take it.

No she’s not and she only lives with her little lad

you would of just thought they would be rolling out more testing and making them go. Maybe I’m just being unrealistic

It's being prioritised for those who live with someone who is showing possible symptoms (could stop them from having to self isolate for 14 days) and those with possible symptoms (could stop them having to isolate for 7).

When the capacity ramps up she should be able to get access without either of the above.

Care workers can get forgotten in all the talk of the NHS. They do a tough job for little financial reward. Hope she's doing okay at this tough time 👍

Please define political decision.

It appears the head of the foreign office defines it as a decison made by politicians. A hideous crime.

there was no indication that it was made for political reasons - heres his exact words

Quote

It was a political decision, our mission briefed minsters on what was available, and what was on offer, and the decision is known

you will note he calls it a political decision, but does'nt say it was made for political reasons.

How very dare they do something that turns out to be the right thing. The Bastards.

Yes it was a nice gesture but still a poor decision for the UK.

Explain why they tried to cover it up? They decided not to enter into this ventilator scheme for reasons other than what they said at the time.

It may have proved a great decision in hindsight but we were desparately short of ventilators a few weeks ago and if the numbers of coronavirus patients in intensive care had continued rising we would have been short.  How dare they do something that turns out right? aye ok.

We've got more back. Maybe our good will initially helped facilitate many more in return, just when every Tom, Dick and Harry wants them?

Benevolent Tory bastards.

Loon.

There was an intervening period when 650k items had gone to China and we were not overflowing with supplies ourselves. Negligent Tory bastards. But they are doing a great job!
