I've always felt he may well ride off into the sunset once he's finished brexit once and for all.

I thought he may do the full term initially, however you may well be right- a new youngster and a brush with death could we'll see him re-evaluating things.

I think it's more the realisation that he's totally out of his depth and there's many better paid opportunities for much less effort

Agree to disagree. He isn't out of his depth for me. We all know he isn't a stickler for in depth detail- which may not be ideal currently, but as long as his delegated folk are doing their jobs well, that's more than half his battle.

He's already got a deal over the line in no time when most said he couldn't. Whether you voted in or out he's moved the process along from its inertia.

I do agree though, that he'll not stay around for ages as I think he will want to write more books and explore other options.

I get that some teachers will be working from home doing online lessons. I also get that some teachers are in school teaching the children of essential workers.

What happens, though, when the schools should be closed? Be it weekends or school holidays, the essential workers will still be needed in work and those who use schools as their childcare still need it to be provided. Will it be?

As an aside, we received an incredibly detailed proposal from my lad's school as to their way of meeting guidance for year 10s coming back.

Seems like a heck of a lot of good, hard work has gone on and is as safe as you could expect it to be.

Whether enough parents will agree (via the accompanying questionnaire) we will find out this evening.

One thing is clearly evident though, if as Chris Whitty discussed previously, social distancing carries on for many months yet, then there's no way any school can cater for all of the children full time.

All our staff back from furlough next week and no plan to furlough anyone going forward. Full steam ahead. Positive news that I feel for such a large business to be taking that stance hopefully plenty more are doing the same

"Hundreds of thousands of coronavirus tests sent to people's homes have been counted but never returned to labs, PHE's testing boss has suggested.

Professor John Newton, director of health improvement at Public Health England, could only say today that 'more than half' of home tests had been completed.

The Government claims that 719,000 tests have been delivered to people for them to complete the swabs themselves, but a significant chunk of these may never have been done."

 

Might as well have stuck them in the bin and counted it.

But if they feel they need to take two tests then how is that akin to putting them in the bin? It’s really not in reality is

I think outside normal school hours you're expected to make your own arrangements

but if we need to test people twice to ensure accuracy (for whatever reason) its not the same as putting them in the bin. 

I can’t see them wasting the tests unnecessarily and they have openly stated the number of people that they are actually testing. But it should only be that number the other is totally irrelevant

My understanding was if one person was being counted as 2 that there'd been a fcuk up or inconclusive result

Two separate methods of testing, two separate issues. The two swabs come from the in-person testing PHE do - key workers and people in hospital. A nasal swab and a mouth swab from one person taken at the same time, which are being counted as two tests.

At least those actually are being tested at some point, even if counting both is misleading.

The home tests are sent out to people, and counted as a 'test' in the daily figures at that point. According to John Newton today, a significant number of those never get sent back. So in effect those ones might as well have been binned, or be in Matt Hancock's boot.

It's a nonsensical method of counting, which is helpful to no-one other than politicans.
