Marc505 Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 In the very early preliminary stages of weighing up a move to Sheffield from Notts, a few reasons but it's mid way between both our sets of parents who aren't getting any younger (and 1.5 hours closer to mates/football, bonus). Anyway, anyone live there, lived there, lived on the outskirts who can rate it, hate it, or recommend some decent residential districts? We went and had a look today for some first impressions at Kelham Island (loved the atmosphere and boozers but very pricey), Nether Green (quieter but transport and parking looks like a right slag) and Hansworth (it's a no from me). ProfessorWoland Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 I spent a few years there. Was back a few months ago and the town centre is much changed/improved. Plus points, Peak District on your doorstep, much greener city than you'd imagine, lots of trees, nice parks. City is a decent size, big enough to get decent gigs etc but not so big it becomes a pain. Minus points. I found a lot of people from Yorkshire had made it there home. I'm not prejudiced, if a man has a tail that's his business, it's not their fault they're a couple of steps removed on the evolutionary ladder. Hills, like Rome it's built on seven. That's about the only thing they have in common. It also has its rough areas like Pittsmoor. In hindsight I wouldn't recommend dating a girl from there whose got a board over her kitchen door because that's where her husband tried to get in. Quote
Zico Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 (edited) Lived there at Uni Last century so it's totally changed No idea on where to live now Of the places i lived have a look at Totley and Dore about 5 miles south, though the latter certainly won't be cheap (Trevor Francis was the celebrity resident at the time, whilst Nigel Worthington lived next door to our halls, Dave Bassett also drank in our local) But in general it's a nice place and easy access to other places Edited July 18, 2020 by ZicoKelly Quote
Biggish Dave Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Come to think of it, Marple’s a lovely suburb of Sheffield, not far out on the rattler Quote
leigh white Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Wisewood is not a bad place, a leafy suburb but very hilly. Quote

Marc505 Posted July 18, 2020 Author Posted July 18, 2020 Cheers lads gonna have a look at some of these neighbourhoods. It has a feel of Manchester about it in that it already looks different from the last time I spent any time there, a lot of building work going on. Quote

Brewery taps, old town pubs, bars built into former mills etc. I know a few go to Kelham Island on Sheffield aways while everyone else stays in Tap or a Spoons, and now I know why. Unfortunately done some further research tonight on the houses we really liked on there and it has priced us out completely (14 grand for a car parking space?!) A bit gutted, but we go on. Quote
