Message on the WhatsApp group from my lads coach. Guessing it didn’t go well! My son didn’t play due to injury and I haven’t got the bollocks to ask what score it was

No game next week

Not enough players.

I think they need a week off too. Unfortunately there are too many not looking like they fancy a game at the minute or taking too long to get going. My own son included and high on that list!

I told them at half time that I put my effort in to setting up games and so if they didn’t want to play, I’ll take my weekend back.

It’s rare I put a negative message on the group, so I hope collectively we can get the boys to pull together, put max effort and bravery in and hopefully add some football stuff in there too.

If you think I should also do anything differently, I’ll take the feedback too.”

to be fair, that are some lowering standards from the group. Not just in terms of standard of ability (a couple of are miles off it, and the drop the from the better players to more lower ability players is massive”, but lads not joining in the higher intensity training or not doing the warm-up, not training etc. most of it is on the parents to be fair. They’re only 9/10 years old. Hopefully something changes as I feel he’s going to sack it off. I’ve told him in my opinion he needs to recruit a few more players and create 2 different ability teams but it goes against his own personal ethos and fair enough, it’s his team

I was sole in charge of the lads team this morning, 2-0 down in the first 5 mins

Won 3-2

No matter what the age, there’s no feeling like it. When you see them get that momentum at 2-1, 2-2 and they start absolutely flying before they get the deserved winner. I absolutely love it.

I mean, I never really went 2-0 goals down when I played 😉😂 but when it happens with the kids, and you see their energy and passion. Wow. It’s just the best.

My youngest missed the last penalty in a shoot out to get knocked out of the Lancashire cup against some high flying team from the Wigan league.

Immensely proud of him for stepping up. All the kids were brilliant with him and the coaches too.

Was a great save tbf.

Gutted for him but that's what life is all about, dealing with the bad bits.

Hope he’s not too hard on himself. Pot luck

My daughter missed this a couple of seasons ago. Tournament final. If she scores, we win.

She didn’t. They scored the next one and won. She was absolutely crushed at the time but we commended her bravery at 1) stepping up and 2) taking the risk by going for the top corner. Shes never shied of taking one since 👍🏻

“I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

He was brave, showed the bottle and hit the target. As I remind my young athletes quite often, you can't account for what the others do, and can only control what you do. If it was your best and they were better, that's sport.

My athletes compete for an overall points score over 5 or 7 events and its on a knife edge as one mishap, like hitting a hurdle or doing three no jumps can be their day ruined. The mantra, from a famous US coach, we try to instil is 'don't get too up about the ups and down about the downs' as they work through the day / weekend

You know I think both E and F are absolute stars; great pair of kids- testimony to both and Doris… but that vid reminded me;

i have 2 gifts- one is finding a Wetherspoons within 10 mins of leaving a train station, the other is reading penalties.

One of them is pure instinct

The other is reading body language, how they set themselves, the run, the standing foot, the opening of the body… Maybe it’s easier with kids, but watching her take that penalty- I just knew to follow you and I’d find a spoons 😂

Sat next to him and his wife at a charity function at the Reebok. A very nice bloke.

Daughter's game v BWFC has been called off tomorrow. Gutted.

How come bud? Any team getting a bye?

The lad avenged a defeat in Premier League Tournament today; his misplaced 30 yard pass led to a Boro winner a couple weeks back- today he’s hit an 80 yard pass for a 91st min assist against them.

I choose those words carefully… difference between twatting it and hitting a gap

We only had 11 and they're top of the league above so I'm guessing our manager has seen his arse

Are you playing rugby?!

Well at the moment I'm sat in the car watching them train in pissing rain.

Youngest won 6-2 this morning. Was a closer game than the scoreline suggests.

Some were criticising his decision… his coach (played in a World Cup, PFA team of the year…) was asking him to miss out the 9  and go over for a runner

My lads under 12s just lost their main man too.

Rolls Royce of a player. I'm convinced he should be playing at a top academy but not quite athletic enough.

Felt like when Curcic left the whites.

Gone to a new team that have set up and decided to try and take all the best players. The lads mates from school play for em so it was a no brainer.

Tossers.

Tiki Taka have a team in my son’s age group. All high level players but play in a mid-section division and pump everyone double figures every week.

You’d think the league would move them up… But she’s a div-sec 🫣
