Dogs and the vets

Dog started with a slight limp (back leg) Saturday morning. No obvious injuries or anything stuck between toes. Gradually got worse so I've booked him into the vets. Earliest I can get is Wednesday. He's only 1, so it's not old age.

Given his paws a salt bath and trying to make him rest. Anyone got any advise to try and help the poor lad?

I can cope with poorly humans but not with poorly animals 😢

My old border collie is 14 now . Deaf as a post but still in good health given his age. He is stiff as a board in a morning and sleeps most of the time. He is by far the smartest  animal I have ever a

Just needed to share this.

We're heartbroken.

Came away on Saturday with three happy collies.

One took ill shortly after.

Ended up being taken in last night for antibiotics etc.

Seemed to be responding.

Down hill rapidly this morning, emergency surgery only chance, and found hugely damaged pancreas and gut.

Had to be immediately euthanized.

Just said our goodbyes at the vets- they've been brilliant (Stewartry in Castle Douglas).

Dunno what to do. Absolutely gutted.

Will give our other two big hug later, but nothing prepares you for this.

Fuck football.

It's heartbreaking, still miss mine after 2 months. No words can help just grieve in your own way and tell anyone who says it's just a dog to fuck off, they're family

Sorry to hear this mate......

That's fucking awful

It's a family member

Can't stop crying.

Fortunately he was still warm and "just asleep"- looked perfectly healthy. Made it easier to give him a hug.

How do you continue a holiday and enjoy it?

Reckon the other dogs know something is wrong, but going home won't make anything easier I suppose.

Same happened to us last August... I was having a second cup of coffee and trying to finish a crossword while the missus was checking the tide times so we could plan a walk... he tried to jump onto the bed and keeled over... I remembered there was a vet near the prom on the beach, bundled him up howling his head off... brilliant lass, she came out of surgery and to the car... it was a brain haemorrhage and we all knew... My advice is go for a bloody long walk and appreciate everything you are left with.

On the dogs' sofa. Dog blankets everywhere! 😀

My lad put the cap on him, and he's almost inconsolable.

a beaut of a dog. Collies are pure diamonds.

Sorry for your loss fella, sounds awful.

Just seen this last night, had a pretty. Emotional day yesterday and the pictures set me off.

So sorry for your loss. Dogs are fucking brilliant. Just bought ours back after a walk my missus gone out whilst we were out. Daft dog now looking in every room for her.

So sorry to read this pal.  What a handsome chap he was.  Lost ours on the Monday before Wembley and thought exactly the same- feck football.  That did change come kick off time but some of our tears at the end were for him and not just the relief at getting out of league 1.  I still cant make a butty in the kitchen and not expect him to be behind me hoping for a scrap or two.

Dogs are the best.

Sorry to hear about this. Fucking brutal.

My lad is nearly 15 and doing OK.  I cant bear the thought of losing him but I know its coming. Losing one like you have must be devastating.

He was a beautiful lad similar looking to mine. Collies are the greatest arnt they.

Take care.

Blimey!!! That’s horrendous. Really sorry to hear that mate

Thanks for the kind words gents.

Just hollow and lost at the moment, and worried for our lad.

We'll get there though.

Just seen this. So sorry for your loss. It must be devastating for all the family. Condolences to everyone.
Our Wilf is the first and only dog we’ve had in our family and I’m dreading it coming to us.

Had dogs previously, and it is always heartbreaking to lose one.

I went with my neighbour when his needed putting to sleep. Skriked my head off!

They're tying and hard work, but repay that umpteen fold.

Just hope my other two get the chance to live a full life and not be taken so soon and so suddenly.

I can't believe it would ever get any easier either. It's not just sad for the dog, but for all concerned.

Wilf is our daughters dog. When she got him I told her you don't want a dog. They're shit machines, they're tying everything I could to put her off.

He's 10 now, a trig dog and has his own site and my best mate.

Still a shit machine mind.

Just seen this. It's fucking horrible mate. We lost our first 2 within a few months, but at least they were old and we knew it was coming.

I know it's trite, but it gets easier in time. You'll know you're getting there when you can laugh about the daft things he used to do without just feeling shit about it.

Just welled up again, you git! 😀

Not sure I've ever skriked so much- going to need intravenous fluids at this rate.

Just been to a loch in a forestry area, where we have videos of all three playing a few years back.

Pissing down, loads of tears, but the other two love it. Grieving and healing in action.

  • 2 weeks later...

the couple who took my dog send regular pics and videos

proper missing him

but seeing him with his new brother / best mate is lovely to see
