We are all guilty of looking too closely into individual results.  2 years ago, about an hour into the 2nd game of the season, we'd beaten WBA away and were 2 up against Bristol City.  McGennis looked

Bad starts don't mean much tbf, I remember Wilder lost his first 4 games in our promotion season, still pissed the league.

I remember driving back from Southend early in 96-97 having shipped 5 and thinking "this could be a tough season"...

Don’t forget we are still under embargo, which is holding us back. We’ve had to scrape together a side again best we can . Let’s hope we manage to get promotion this season ,then hopefully next season we can compete properly in the market and build with better quality players .

That was just a Bizarre result.

We got L2 standard camera men in now? Watches like a shit road runner video from the 80s

Keeper looked less then convincing.

The result was a bit of a reality check and dented my hopes a bit but I trust we will get it right.

Needs patience to get this new system and these new players firing on all cylinders. Unfortunately, patience will be hard to come by now we're in the last tier of league football and all the positive talk has got people's hopes up.

I read/heard that Evatt started with 4-3-3 at Barrow and then switched to 5-3-2 which worked better. So I think if this wingback system isn't working, he won't hesitate to change it up.

Can't read into these results too much right now though, as others have said earlier there's plenty of examples of teams including us that have started badly and come good, or vice versa.

Not too concerned

We've beaten teams below us and lost to teams above us

Agree with this .Stopping the rot & losing game after game is the priority .Its going to take a bit of time.See a parallel with early seventies when Jimmy Armfield took over.Club was at a low ebb & we started inconsistently, finished quite strongly with a top ten finish.Season after with virtually the same players we won the league .That team was probably a bit younger than Evatt’s.

No problem with that, however its not what Evatt has said. We've all liked his positivity, and he seemingly wants us up this time.

We're still hamstrung by not being able to spend money on fees though, so it's not going to be a walk in the park.

A question that was asked earlier in the thread about us losing all of our friendlies in a pre- Season. The only modern example I can find is the 2006/07 season which we lost all 5. They were

Burnley A L 1-2

Derby A L 0-2

Recreativo Huelva A L 2-3

Seville A L 0-3

AZ Alkmaar H L1-3

Luckily it didn't do too much harm , we won 6 of the first 10 league games.

We also had a disastrous Danish tour in 2000/01

Bronby A L 1-2

Lyngby A L 0-6

Odense A L 1-6

Again not much harm done , we won 6 of the first ten in the league .

Does it look like we’ve widened the pitch?

Doesn't mean they aren't allowed. You know what the point is anyhow.

I expect Salford have paid a few. And Fleetwood when they were passing through.

him being mates with doyle at chesterfield and everyone else being salty is still funny after 5 week.

I'm not sure what the point is

Teams we are competing with aren't paying fees

I dint think we would be paying fees, nor that we should need to

We can match wages and we are bwfc

Its the biggest gig in the league, by miles

Probs been the odd one but there's only stockport I remember shelling out

In that case, undisclosed fees (one apiece) have been paid out by Barrow, Bradford, Grimsby, Harrogate, Mansfield, Salford & Scunthorpe. Could amount to a dozen tracksuits between them, mind.

I think it's more about whether there's a promotion-winning squad of players available on a free transfer this summer. Other clubs might not have paid transfer fees either, but how many seasons have they had to put their squad together.

We might be the biggest gig in the league by miles but it didn't stop Turnbull going elsewhere.

That there is the main issue for me this season. We’ve rebuilt from basically nowt bar a few odds and sods. Takes some time to gel and as such whilst I’m expecting us to win the league with what we have it may take a while to get going properly.

Salford offered him more cash

Think my point is that it isnt the embargo holding us back

We wouldnt be paying fees, either way

Theres just no need to

We had no team. Still couldn't pay a single fee. I'd say that's put us behind the rest. Having to completely rebuild with frees.

Evatt done well to grab those that are available early, but to expect that team to really hit the ground running and run away with things is way too much.

I hope you are wrong but apart from a few of the signings the rest seem a division below League 2 standard
