Its appeasement, that's all it is, and more people will end up dying in the longer term if you essentially capitulate to agressors. These aren't peace deals in the slightest.

  • We’ve reached a point where folk are so entrenched in their support for trump that they’ll side with Putin if it means not losing face on the socials. Thats where we are now. its ok

  • That Vance is a bigger cunt than Trump

Unfortunately.

Going to be a beer shortage next year. Ukraine is a major wheat producer so our farmers will produce more wheat at the expense of Barley

Can only assume its when Putin fan hopes Ukraine falls.

I suggest you check out a BBC documentary "Putin, Russia and the West" that was repeated on BBC4 tonight, also a very good article by Gideon Rachman in last Saturday's Guardian.

This conflict goes back to Bush and Rice and it must be more constructive to get inside the mind of your opponents and try to find solutions rather than make pointless shouts.

First thoughts of a massive wheat shortage are we might not get a pint not any of the other none alcoholic influential ways wheat touches our day to day lives.

We know from bitter experience a simple exocet type missile can knock out a capital ship, hence the UK has now invested in two big carriers without the smaller ships and submarines required to provide the layers of defence... there's a lesson for us here.

yes, to not invade a neighbouring country for wanting to control their own destiny

to not allow our troops to commit genocide

to not obliterate towns and cities

to not threaten nuclear attacks

but then I think we already know these things

Tell me I'm wrong, but I think the whole concept of a naval ships is blown. You can take a ship out with a drone costing a few grand, apart from aircraft carriers sat out to sea, out of range, they are sitting ducks for modern tech.

A few hundred grand, if not a couple of million.

Modern ships are equipped with an array of missiles capable of destroying other missiles. Even the guns can track and shoot down moving objects.

Wouldn't surprise me is some top secret equipment is available too, or soon will be.

Still not a bad ROI right. Meanwhile Russia are flying drones with a Canon 750d glued in.

Utter guff.

A simple watch of some of the available recent documentaries shows that not to be the case.

We have been short of large carriers and these two now compliment the number of smaller ships which would accompany and protect them in a battle group.

Much of the weaponry is beyond horizon type stuff allowing engagement from a distance.

Anti submarine cover provided both by boats and helicopters.

A lot of it is about technology and capability, and nato has plenty of it, unlike your mate Putin.

12 microwaves strapped together with gaffer tape is what they call a nuclear weapon. All a big bluff like North Korea.

Many lessons are no doubt being learned by all nations. Russia’s idea of modern military warfare is so dated it’s unbelievable. Dated Soviet mentality and dated Soviet weapons. The rest of the world will also be watching their undoubted miscalculation with interest though.
There is no doubt in my mind that the west is far superior in all aspects of its military capabilities, lessons are being learned though. If NATO got involved it would be all over in a matter of weeks if not days.
Russia have Nukes though. They continually use it as a threat. Nukes were supposedly the ultimate deterrent to WW111.
Ukraine is delaying/avoiding WW111 by fighting with their lives. If we can keep supplying them with weapons then they will repel the Russians. The cost, to them though will be/is enormous.

HMS Sheffield was state of the art and got knocked out by a relatively primitive missile whose warhead didn't even detonate. The Captain was still in bed in his cabin on a day of heightened alert and the 20 year old scopey on the radar didn't make the call when he saw a potential threat because he was afraid of getting a bollocking.

Technology means nothing if the people don't or aren't enabled to use it

Agreed but when you take the King's shilling part of the covenant is your politicians will not commit you to immoral wars, every time i see a knocked out tank I see 5 lads burned to death in a one minute inferno.

I realise the majority of the Russians are conscripts which then brings into question the quality of their Officers for not keeping discipline

All boils down to the US believing NATO territory is threatened by Iranian missiles that might or might not exist.

US wants to put their missiles into the eastern extremities of NATO (Poland) as a deterrent.

Russia then tells US, we accept this but do you realise your missiles could also hit 50% of our country.

Okay says the US, you can put observers into our missile bases. But then US renegade on this verbal agreement telling Russia they can maybe visit their bases sometimes.

Then Georgia and Ukraine apply to join NATO and Russia objects as the missiles will now penetrate further but the US adopt a stony face.

Every time I see a Russian tank taken out I see it as 5 less rapists, murderers and looters. War is hell but the Ukrainians didn’t start it.

You are correct. SNAFU.

We can have all this technology but at the end of the day its the grunts in the battlefield under stress who have to make things work.

It's not a video game like space invaders or whatever, it's flesh, bones and steel & explosives

You’re saying NATO territory as if NATO is some sort of Colonial organisation. It was formed to protect. No country was or are forced to join. They wanted to join to protect them from mainly Russian aggression but also other possible aggressor’s.
