The Russians failed miserably virtually succeeded in uniting the West against them.

Germany has come a long way since the start of the conflict and schultz has done quite a lot. His team are also easing towards supporting with heavy weapons too, but historically there's a lot to overcome. 

Nigh on impossible for then to just boot Russian energy into touch overnight, but I'm sure much of the west is working on just that.

Criticism also been levied at Schultz though for not going- which I think is unfair.

It isn't a competition for browny points- fair play to leaders that do go, but it's not the be all and end all. Getting the support to Ukraine is the important bit. It appears that Germany is improving in that regard, though it obviously could do more. 

I can understand Germany's past reticence over arms etc, we all can, and I'm sure there is still some reluctance within political circles over there.
