UK and France followed suit.

They've been used in parts of Ukraine occupied by Russia, but now a step up.

Seems the report is a touch premature, but I'm sure it will happen.

Need Germany to join in too.

That's not really a surprise though is it, we're always going to follow the US lead on this type of thing. As soon as Trump is in power, and reverses that decision, so will we (and France)

As above, the report I saw was a bit premature apparently.

Funnily enough, we led the way initially on the use of these long range weapons, albeit with caveats.

One former defence bod was saying that he felt that discussions will have taken place between Biden's lot and Trump's lot beforehand, and that the public facing (electioneering) comments may be very different from those on the ground.

It's unfortunate that in Europe, we largely take the lead, together with France. Other large nations need to chip in too.

Perhaps they don't want to be tipping in billions of $/€ that they can't afford to.....especially when they know somebody else (US, UK & France) will take up any slack

Aye.

The very essence of Trump's previous comments, which did indeed see increased spending by other European nations.

Many have donated f16 aircraft in fairness, but when it comes to these specialised weapons once again it's the same folk doing the heavy lifting.

I think that's likely. And it gives DT extra bargaining power when he's trying to negotiate an end to hostilities.

I wouldn't fancy being one of those North Korean lads about to enter Kursk mind.

True, it's getting chilly as well. They'll be wishing they were back in NK pretty quickly I suspect

I would imagine many in NK get cold. Hungry too.

They were supposedly being used in support roles behind the front lines, to allow more Ruskies to go forwards.

Now some have been attacked already, but with the new permissions, they will become even more vulnerable.

What a bloody mess it is.

Parts of NK will be much colder than it gets in Ukraine... They'd have trained in pretty bleak conditions. Not with rockets, grenades and drones flying by their heads mind

I know NK is a bit parky come winter, but as you say, they're not under constant bombardment when they are there

The war is going nowhere fast other than losing more lives and I think the noises coming out from Trump and which will transfer to our policy no doubt, will be little appetite to continue with it. Think if Russia gets the Kursk region back and with what they've got they may be content to call it quits.

If it tips owt like Bosnia when I was there as the conflict had just ended, the western countries will be looking at the pots of cash that a peace deal will bring. There'll be some massive contracts handed out rebuilding, demining and also the continued training and arming of their military. In Bos most of the towns you went through there was a sign saying being rebuilt with the help of  the people of Norway/Germany etc. and we should be forerunners for a few of those with what we've contributed.

10 years time Traf will be doing package holidays to Odessa and it'll all be history.

I’d say this is about the the most likely outcome.

I reckon Traf will be able to get you a package to Odessa now if you ask him nicely

Was reading that their winter training is in a Mountainous area in the North that has winter temperatures of -40 - They make them fight for extra layers of clothing after doing drills barechested. Nutters.

ICBM launched by Russia.

Can one of our military buffs explain whether these have ever been used in combat before? Or is this just the first time they have been used in Ukraine?

Presumably this is a response to the use Atacms/Storm Shadow?

I don’t know but they could reach the UK with one of them.

I think that's the implied threat isn't it. The BBC are reporting that it's the first time one of these has been used in Ukraine. I'm just curious whether they've ever been used anywhere else? Obviously the implications are different if they haven't been used elsewhere.

In answer to my own question. No, they've never been used in combat before.

Savvy move from the Ruskies. But another escalation.

Yep, worrying times.

I expect that's the idea though! In reality - it doesn't really matter whether it's an ICBM or a different type of missile if one lands on your house. It's just a nod towards the threat of nuclear isn't it?

The UK are seen as Americas European mouthpiece so we are probably enemy number 1. I just can’t see how this gets de-escalated now. Over to you Donald🤦‍♀️
