Poroshenko was in in charge in the first Donbas war against Russian separatists who didn't want to go the EU way, they had "support" from Putin.

Zalensky was a TV actor starring in their version of Yes Prime minister I think in 2015 ish before he stood for election (2019?)

What would you do about Putin and his gang?

Agreed but they didn't form a political party and name it after their TV series... "Servant of the People".

Involvement in the thread has opened my eyes to how much people really hate the Russians and Putin... I thought early on that the Ukrainians were winning the media war. Obviously with a party that began as a TV/media company will get the upper hand on the boring old Russians with regard to communications.

I have been immune to all this because I don't have a twitter account or similar and gather my information from more conventional published sources... hence me being becoming "different" with regard to my outlook.  I has surprised me how far this communication campaign has spread.

Rest assured I do not like gangsters like Putin but I really don't think I'll open a twitter account or whatever.

He's the SG of the United Nations... so its all going to be more beige rather than black and white.

He's avoided the Commonwealth Summit as they are banging on about Colonialism committed over 100 years ago... modern day Colonialism is much more interesting and maybe has more "sidelines"

The UN is becoming defunct, as I suggested the world is now breaking down into several groups of united nations.

FIFA is probably the last "respected" international body and we all know how corrupt they are

If that's a reply to my post above, then it makes no sense.

You initially mentioned Truss, who simply wasn't involved at the time the war started. 

Now you talk about different folk.

Not sure what why you are asking about should be done with Putin neither- unless it is because you think he should be appeased because it's "easier"?

As it is, I think the "west" is doing the right thing at the moment.

Then President Poroshenko was leading Ukraine towards EU membership which didn't sit well with half of the population of the Donbas who saw themselves as Russian rather than European. These separists gained unofficial support from Moscow which we all know, culminated in a Malyasian airliner being brought down by a Buk missile.

The really interesting bit is that the media company behind Zalensky and the TV show decided to stand for election for real... Zalensky's partywais called "Servant of the People" and was voted in on a popularist wave.

They had the backing of several very wealthy Ukrainians and all this obviously irritated Putin and his gang, these oligarchs and gangsters all know of each other. Mafia like corruption is big in the Eastern European states and some of the players are all after EU development money to cream off, I see Zalensky as their "patsy" and they will drop him if things are not going their way.

It has been argued the West has not gone far enough in avoiding war right since 2014. The current supply of arms with restrictions on their use now only appears to be feeding the stalemate, one side needs to get on top so that there can then be a resolution, otherwise the destruction will drag on... I wonder how long the people of the Donbas will tolerate this?

No Putin sop here, in the current position we need to give him a bloody nose to break the stalemate and give one side ascendancy, possibly another spring offensive.

Eastern Europe is rife with mafia style corruption including the members of the EU. The TV comedian was/is a frontman for some very nasty hard nosed "business men"... an actor can't afford a political campaign, especially over there where your life is at stake.

When this is all over, tens of billions of EU, US and UN dollars will be sent as aid to rebuild the cities. If the mafia syphon off just 10% that will be billions and they also get free travel throughout Europe if they get membership, which will be a given if Russia loses. I'd bet some of the aid money will end up in Putin's coffers as well as he will have his extortionate fingers in the system.

Same is happening in Moldova and Georgia, we all need to bear this in mind.

Trying hard not to be one sided, just reviewing what I know.

You can't escape the fact that in the 2010 elections the now deposed (and living in Russian exile) Yanukovych's winning majority was gained in the east and Crimea with very few votes in central and western Ukraine. He was a violent and corrupt man and was removed from office in 2014.
