Its appeasement, that's all it is, and more people will end up dying in the longer term if you essentially capitulate to agressors. These aren't peace deals in the slightest.

  • We’ve reached a point where folk are so entrenched in their support for trump that they’ll side with Putin if it means not losing face on the socials. Thats where we are now. its ok

  • That Vance is a bigger cunt than Trump

Europe also needs to do more.

Ukrainians are desperate for defensive interceptor systems.

If they can stop the pummelling from the missile and drone attacks, then their moral will improve, and help resist whilst Russia's war effort weakens.

Things are on a knife edge for Ukraine at the moment. I don't trust Putin or Trump tbh.

I know you don't think much of Zelensky but he could have hightailed it out of there at the start but he didn't. He's had numerous attempts to kill him and his family since, kudos for that.

I just hope Trump starts playing hardball with Putin now he has got NATO countries paying what they should.  This is probably the only issue I agree with the orange one about but he is absolutely right.

Good point, I recall the US offered to evacuate Mr Z at the onset... I am suspicious of him as he is a TV comedian with a history of winding people up...  such as Putin and Trump.

Unfortunately things have panned out as I predicted, a war of attrition with massive destruction and loss of life coupled with a big rise in energy prices affecting our cost of living. That was why I was advocating negotiation before it all really kicked off... some call it appeasement, I call it facing up to reality.

I heard a report on R4 today that there have been  250,000 casualties this year alone.

I am worried we are being sucked into an unending conflict (civil war?) we cannot afford and the US are now starting to distance themselves.

Imagine if it's a long game gag, and he rocks up at a summit, and says "Gotcha" and then a load of hidden cameras come out. Everybody then rolls around laughing. Zelenskyy wins a BAFTA and a Golden Globe, and is hailed as the greatest prank comedian ever (yes, ahead even of Jeremy Beadle)

Being well played by everyone this. Tongues firmly stuck up Trump's arse. Would be even better if he could remove his from Putin's.

Lads we may have to stop being stubborn bastards and give the big orange paedo some credit if he’s involved in a deal the Ukrainians & Russians agree to.

Let’s see ….

Either way, it’ll be Putin who wins.

Tongues and arses are all the UK and EU bring to the table.

Could be brutal... all depends on what the US end game is

Well, if there is a peace deal, Russia will formally get something they didn't have at the start of the war- that's basic common sense.

If you want to call that a win, then fair enough. I'd suggest plenty of Russians wouldn't, given their losses, economic damage etc. They're reportedly importing potatoes!

The only way to guarantee Putin completely loses, is to continue the fighting, and supply many more weapons and munitions, together with further permissions.

America won't (or at least only in reduced numbers) and European nations can't and if they could, don't all share the same view.

There is no real winner/loser at the end of this one.

Can understand your logic and reasoning, however whilst I agree you could debate whether Russia wins or loses I think sadly Ukraine will be the real loser.  When this ends, as it will, they will have lost sovereign territory as well as 1000s and 1000s of lives of their citizens through an unprovoked attack. An attack which continues with daily bomb and drone attacks whilst the western world still won’t stand forcibly up to Putin.

Really good post

 agreed

I just worry that Putin won’t stop. Hopefully when he goes, the next guy isn’t as bad

Hard to judge all this.

Trump seems determined to get into a room with just the two of them.

Whose side do you think he’ll take? Because I’m not convinced it’ll be Zelenskyy.

As for the no winners/losers. Well, fair, but if Russia get the Donbass they’ve certainly come out of it with more than Ukraine have.

If I had to guess the real play here, I think Putin is struggling and has asked his mate Trump to put pressure on everyone to give away the land. I think a strong American President rolls the dice here and supports a massive offensive to push the Russians back whilst they’re weak.

That’s very true.

Think TMJ is more making the point that this has dragged so much & caused so much damage for Russia also.

Zelensky though - What a Guy & What a Leader 🇺🇦🇺🇦

Will be remembered for many generations to come.

Every analysis I read has a different view on it.

Even on Sky News it varies massively

The war is being fought by the Russians using WW2 tactics, something I am very familiar with, they are grinding on to Slovyansk and Kramatorsk in Donetsk... these are "hinges", if they take these then the plains to the north and west will open up and their forces will be able to go for a "Swan" as Monty and Patton used to call it... possibly right through to Kyiv.

If the current Ukraine Government surrender all of Donetsk then they really are exposed to future attacks without some form of extra security... then it all boils down to whether Ukraine is European or Russian I suppose.

Ironic the people who are saying "take the deal" are the same who would say "never surrender"

I've often wondered about that myself. Hardly the bulldog spirit is it?

Another day on and the Trump/US narrative remains puzzling. Still not seeing or hearing anything that Putin is being asked to give up or compromise on? Still not aware of any pressure being applied on Russia apart from the odd meaningless sound bite?  It remains as it has from day 1 all about what flexibility Zelenskyy will have to show.  Give up all the Donbas. Give up territory seized in other regions. Not join NATO. The US are not brokering a peace deal here, instead playing a game of smoke and mirrors to enable Putin to achieve his goals.

We can all guess why.

I can understand the European tactics yesterday to pander to Trumps ego to try and get him more onside but it’s not working. The hold Putin has on him is too great.

Not sure where this will end up. A substantial increase in EU military support to push Russia back to force Putin’s hand? Putin runs out of cash/hardware?  …… or the Russians march into Kyiv?

I'd like to know how much this shit show has cost the UK to date, not just in arms supplies but in increased energy costs.

I'm not convinced the Coalition of the Willing can financially or otherwise afford a significant peace keeping presence without the US, don't forget we only have just over 70,000 pairs of boots to put on the ground

  • 3 weeks later...

Saw something earlier about the EU's Ursula being caught in in Russian GPS blocking of her plane.

One mon reckoning it's time for NATO/European coalition to retaliate rather than continually letting these Russian acts go unpunished.
