Are we going up?

On paper they’ve probably the second best squad behind ours I would say. Some decent players for this Level and a manager who is proven as well so I think you might be right and they win the league.

be nice for them to come up with us ready for fans back next season!

I remember when we won games during our decline sometimes thinking that we got a bit lucky and obviously I was happy to get a win on match day but part of me couldn't help feeling it was papering over cracks, whether it was Premier League with Coyle or Wilbraham on the last day of the season. Some amazing memories, sure, but in the context of the club it all felt like we were on a downward trend and any positives felt more like a glimmer rather than a light at the end of the tunnel.

You might say we've been lucky in this recent upturn in form with Shaun Miller's goals in particular but this "luck" feels entirely different to me.

I believe luck is a massive thing in football, not just during games but in everything: transfers, ownership, injuries, managers, things falling in the right place at the right time. All those factors make football such a chaotic and entertaining sport. Looking at our decline, losing Big Sam, massive injury layoffs, relegation, Eddie's money running out, Ken Anderson takeover, administration and much more...

I think now, with our new owners, new manager, new style, I think the context of our luck is much more positive. More reasons to be optimistic. I believe in Sharon/FVs plans for the club, I believe in Evatt and the squad. I really think this is the start of us heading in the right direction after many years of decline. I'm not saying we'll be Premier League in 5 years but I think we should look at our situation with hope and optimism as the club has turned a massive corner since the end of the K. Anderson era. It's a cliché but trust in the process because it looks like there actually is a process, which is more that can be said for the last decade.

Are we going up? Ab-so-fucking-lutely!

COYW

We have a way of winning ugly at the moment because we have better players than everyone else.

Maybe it's luck, maybe it's because we keep going to the end.

From here, with a third of the season left, I really would be pissed off if we don't get top 7 as a minimum and top end of it too

Theyve had a fabulous week. Wins at Carlisle and Orient. Dont see them finishing outside top 3 at all

2 good results - but between them, Carlisle and Orient haven't won a game in the last 12 (combined), 8 defeats & 4 draws.  So let's assume Tranmere have just played 2 teams on the slide.

Average number of points for 3rd place in L2 over the past 5 seasons has been 80.2 (79, 68, 84, 85, 85)

We have 47 points right now, so to get to 80 we need another 33 points from 15 games. That's 11 wins and 4 losses. Or 10 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses.

It's a big ask so I think Play Offs is probably where we'll end up but it depends on how the other teams do. I don't think 10 wins is out of reach at all but needs a huge collective effort, hopefully we can do it, not sure my heart can take the playoffs.

Won't take as many points as usual. Everyone is dropping too many points. 76 might be enough

Yeah I don't think it'll be on the higher end this season but the recent form of 2nd, 3rd and 4th place makes it look difficult. 1st place Cambridge faltering slightly and played more games than the rest of the top 7. FGR, Cheltenham and Tranmere look best placed to secure the automatic places, hope we can sneak our way in ahead of Tranmere.

I tend to think 1 team will fall away simply because they really aren't that good but having a good season (Morecambe). Another will find pressure getting them - could be anyone but probably Cambridge. Another will get shafted by injuries and suspensions, again anyone.

Finally Carlisle will run out of steam. Thats 4 of the top 10 or 11 who will have a poor run. We have to make sure we aren't 1 of them

I think your previous post re: avg points, and this one have foundation ... I just think that what we have seen since Jan xfers and performances, we are on the ascendency and I would guess other teams are noticing and our confidence will see us go up automatically. End of the day, all opinions. I just think it’s in our own hands (yes I’ve had a drink in another happy weekend).

A month ago I was thinking my heart couldn't take even the suggestion of a relegation battle going into the last dozen games.  I would have snatched hands off for mid table never mind a chance of play offs.  If we lose in the play offs, we start again on a level playing field in August, instead of giving everyone a 3 month start, it could be worse.
