Are we going up?

The other day Rudy said we were 250-1 to win the league.

I put £10 on at 150-1.

Decent odds for a team on a roll.

  • Actually the new Bolton is go one up, miss 27 chances then defend for last 25 minutes potentially with 10 men and pretty certain with a non goal keeper in nets after Gilks injures himself knee sliding

Talk about a week being a long time in football.  With 10 minutes to go at Mansfield they were 2 pts above us with a game in hand, top of the form table and looking at play offs.  A week later we're 1

  • Still have every faith. Not even arsed we lost today. Had to lose somewhere and now is the right time to do it. I think Maddison needs a couple of starts.

Now we have the confidence, we should be able to beat these top teams.

MFM were the best team in the league by a country mile. Now Its time to show it on the pitch.

If we start to play well for the whole game, we should blow these teams away.

That said, I would still take 5 from the next 3.

BTW, why wait for next season?

Once the official “lockdown” is over & travel/overnight stays are allowed from 29 March,  we’re off again.

Risking a dig at Grimsby but you can see in at one specific area, and those pubs on the seafront will be open....

Think we’ll get 7 from the next 3

Love that but realistically I think 4 points and hopefully 5

There seems to be some over cautious acceptance of dropping points in these upcoming games, but when we see them play we'll realise we should be winning.  Some thought Scunthorpe would be decent, they weren't.  If we only get 5 points from the next 3 games, that's exactly what the opposition will want, us to drop 4 points.  If we drop points in 1 game we should absolutely win the next, that's what other teams near the top would expect to do.  And there's no home game in this league when a point is acceptable, its only acceptable to the away team, we shouldn't be letting them go away with a draw if we want to catch them.

Only a win at Oldham is acceptable with their home record, if we are going to drop 2 points let it be at Bradford.

Looked back at a few of games v the top sides. Crellin punched into our goal against Cambridge. Gilks palmed it down for the Cheltenham striker. Deservedly beat Salford on sky. Drew away at Carlisle and Exeter.

All of these before we've strengthened in Jan too. Think we can beat any of them at the top now.

Cambridge was as good as we played all season

Agreed.

A lot of folk on here seem almost reluctant to praise us.

But they’re right on it if it’s looking like we’re dropping points.

Would be fantastic

Automatic is possible but unlikely but definitely can see us in the playoffs. Now if we get to the final crowds will be back but we will only get 5000 tickets. Does group A get first dabs?

Scored arguably our 2 best team goals of the season.  1st when it was 0-0, finished by Brockbank - one of our mystery disallowed goals this season.  The line up was one of our stronger one's for pre-Christmas, Tutte rare start and no sign of the "non league" players apart from last 20 minutes Gordon replaced Brockbank.

Isn’t it 10k if we played in the final

we wouldn’t be allowed back in for the semis as it’s not before the 17th may

Even Cheltenham or Forest Green should be able to cobble 5,000 together.

Forest Green play in Nailsworth which has a population just under 6,000 so it would be impressive if they did.

Saying that, dunno if they attract support from elsewhere.

A month ago I was thinking my heart couldn't take even the suggestion of a relegation battle going into the last dozen games.  I would have snatched hands off for mid table never mind a chance of play offs.  If we lose in the play offs, we start again on a level playing field in August, instead of giving everyone a 3 month start, it could be worse.

I was thinking exactly on the same lines

Difficult to put this "virtual" season in any sort of context, but for all those who remember our previous campaign at this level in 1987/88 after 31 games we were 3rd in the table on 52 points . Our next match was away at Wolves which we lost 4 nil and is remembered more for events off the pitch ( I dont think i saw any of the second half because of a line of police horses along the touchline )

Over those final 15 games we won just 7 drew 5 and lost 3

Don't think that level of performance will suffice to secure automatic this time around

Didn’t there owner say they’ve only got about 600 ticket holders, might of been less.

Dunno, but it's impressive where they have got to

10% of the population.

If we matched that...

They wanted to move closer to the M5 and had plans approved but I'm not sure whether Covid has put paid to that completely

What’s the population about 280k? 28k wouldn’t that be superb week in week out.
