I've got this idea in my head that every time LW and RW reply to each other they do so like this, thinking they've just got one up on the other

UN body: Israel has committed genocide in Gaza.

To fulfil the legal definition of genocide under the Genocide Convention, it must also be established that the perpetrator committed any one of those acts with specific intent to destroy the group in whole or in part.

The commission says it analysed statements made by Israeli leaders and alleges that President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant have "incited the commission of genocide".

It also states that "genocidal intent was the only reasonable inference" that could be concluded from the pattern of conduct of Israeli authorities and security forces in Gaza.

The commission says the pattern of conduct includes intentionally killing and seriously harming an unprecedented number of Palestinians using heavy munitions; systematic and widespread attacks on religious, cultural and education sites; and imposing a siege on Gaza and starving its population.

It’s a damning report. Breaching a convention came about in response to the Holocaust.

Some of the evidence around the Palestinian hostages being taken & their treatment says it all. The targeting of the fertility clinic & neonatal care units is fckn grim. They’re hell bent on destroying everything. Barbarians. 
 

What will the defences be this time around?

- these things happen in war? - Well it’s only 1/2 % of the population that have get killed ? Read the Hamas  Convenant ?

Most governments are complicit tbh.  Perhaps we all are.  I’ve done nothing about it, apart from argue the toss on here with head-in-the-sand deniers (ie  RW/Bolty). It’s been in front of our eyes day in day out for 12 months plus. You only have to look at the pictures of Gaza City this last 24h. A shameful chapter in future history books.

No international collaboration took place, no thorough examination and scrutiny of the evidence.

Back in around 2002, I remember you telling me I was a mentalist for believing that 9/11 was an inside job.

The evidence they have gathered may well be accurate and justify their conclusion. 

Thos sort of conclusion isn't unusual though. 

A quick look at Wikipedia, lists numerous similar events.

The same report also lists concerns amongst other senior people within the UN about an apparent bias, and whilst not necessarily disagreeing with their conclusions, express concerns over the lack of consideration towards acts conducted against Israel by various actors.

Nothing new and nothing will change.

Then when the UN allows Iran to be president of a human rights group, there isn't so much credibility left.

It will make fuck all difference, and the centuries old conflict will continue. 

So just to confirm the UN haven’t confirmed a genocide and the courts that do are still working on the case.

No it's a finding by an independent commission of inquiry - NOT a formal ruling by the UN as a whole, which would have to come from the General Assembly if I've understood correctly. 

The ICJ are still considering the case brought by South Africa. Apparently this is much more consequential as it would be a legally binding ruling that all UN member states would have to abide by. 

Complicated business that I'm struggling to get my head around. And the possible repercussions.......

IDF statements. Which we know aren’t reliable. Just like Hamas’ statements often aren’t. Have to look at other peer reviews to get an idea.
 

US estimates between 11 & 13,000 militants.

 But we’re not usually going to know immediately, unless it’s a highly targeted attack.

A lot of criticism has come of Israeli’s AI assisted targeting system. And particularly their targeting of low ranking Hamas members who weren’t necessarily involved in the attacks. Can’t be right to wipe out an entire family & neighbouring homes, all for one low level member.

Of course some level of collateral damage has to be expected for higher ranking members.

 

There are also vile extremists over in Israel causing a lot of damage - not many would argue that they, their families & neighbours deserve to be butchered though.
