Food / Delivery shortages

Covid?

Brexit?

Both?

I notice it’s taken McDonald’s to run out of milkshakes for it to actually cause people to lose their shit.

I read that 14,000 EU lorry drivers left jobs in the UK since brexit, and only 600 have returned.

Covid caused loss of tests to be cancelled.

The first report was of 3 BP stations having to shut out of 350.  The early reporting of it and the prominence it was given led to the panic buying.

Apart from the few goons that usually pop up in these scenarios, im unsure why the rest of us are considered selfish.  How many on here haven't needed fuel in the last 5 days?

Have you bought more fuel than you usually would? Genuine question?

They were reporting a shortage of tanker drivers, which was a greatly overblown story and not true.

A small handful of stations without fuel became a bigger story than it was in reality.

It wasn't balanced and people reacted, stupidly.

Fair enough, I haven’t seen anything to make me think shit  we’re running out of fuel and interpreted the report about tankers as an issue for one company .
suppose that’s the issue , interpretation

No.  Honest answer.  Went on Friday morning when it was empty to fill up for Sunderland and was limited to 30 quid.  I'm on fumes now

Wouldn't happen if 100% of folk went to University.

Critical thinking abound.

Good take on the media reporting/normal reaction to it on radio 4 this morning. One does follow the other but to call it 'panic buying' is a bit of a falsehood.

Apparently in a real crisis studies show we're usually better behaved to each other.

I still can't believe I paid £1.60 a litre for fucking diesel. It meant the missus could get to work tonight and therefore out of my hair and earning some pennies so not all bad :D

Many examples of selfish behaviour. They will be on the news again later. Even the beeb showed people's videos of greedy customers.

Absolutely mate.

It only needs a few to start the ball rolling and then the panic spreads rapidly.

Also we'd all live in various glistening metropolis or isolated rural idylls. No need for something as crude as a car to get around to earn our daily bread.

Cheers. Just trying To gauge how widespread the issue is really. I fill up twice a week every other week and once the weeks in between and given I’ve a 75 litre tank that’s a fair amount of fuel. Got half a tank left and down to Yorkshire Wednesday so going to fill up locally hopefully before I head down.

Without media coverage no one would have thought there was an issue, and would have carried on as normal.

It's not just the TV and radio but twitter etc.

If they portrayed a more balanced picture, and folk stopped believing the bollocks there wouldn't have been a problem.

One follows the other

The media around the world have been reporting on gas prices. For some reason this prompted this country to go into full on fucktard mode. No other country is having fuel shortages at the pumps like we are.

Thing is the price of fuel hasn’t reason apart from some now Taking advantage.  Thicker than mince the British public sadly.

Even Bolton would have its own Philharmonic.

It would be a totally woke Utopia.

Carbon emissions cut by 2/3 within three years.

There isn't a shortage of fuel. The manufacturers and distributors are now on the box saying so- plenty of fuel and no fewer drivers than  before to meet normal demand.

Too many take no notice and panic.

Demand temporarily spikes and causes the issues we've seen.

One garage having two deliveries a day,  when they'd normally have 3 or 4 per week.

We know this, but sadly there is a shortage at the pumps, that’s a fact and thats news which is why the media are reporting it. We wouldn’t be in this position if we didn’t have a nation of greedy selfish cockwombles

That's more than me, I'm usually once a week but like most on here I'm sure, we need the fuel to get out and go to work, care for family etc.  I completely understand why some people will panic that might be at risk if they cant get fuel. To me it doesnt make them morons

Down to a third full and drove past an empty station and considered pulling in. Than told myself not to be a dick.

But surely the fact that you are panicking makes you a moron in the first place? As without the panicking there would be no problem? That’s how I see it anyway.
I don’t actually perceive I will struggle to fill up again anyway on my way down Tbh (famous last words)

I got my Masters in Business and Management in 2011, not worth the paper it's written on, it certainly never helped me

If you haven't got 6 years in industry to back it up it ain't worth a wank... I really hope someone remembers this from the takeover admin thread.

Absolutely certain there will be posters on here who have been out and  bought more fuel than usual In the last week. Thus contributing to the problems in certain areas.

I've not. I usually fill the tank when the light comes on. I'm on a race now between 'the light' coming on or my mileage hitting 123456 miles...

I work from home and the Mrs has just quit her job so don't particularly need to fomo buy petrol if I don't need to!

I have to go to Leicester and Stoke tomorrow, half a tank I’ve got , if I don’t see any on the way down I will be filling up with “ Cherry B “ from the site to make sure I get back.

Canned my trip to Leith this week as couldn’t be sure I’d be able to get enough to get there and back (sorry pal just realised I never sent you a message) as there’s fuck all fuel round me in East Manc. Had enough to get me to Newcastle today and I’ll have enough to get to Stockport on Thursday for an MOT. Then I’ll be on fumes

Decided to play safe on the way up. Hartshead Moor services - rammed, no chance of less than an hour’s wait. Wetherby services - queuing on the slip road off the A1. Finally got some at Washington but limited. I’d check if you can before you set off

Remember in 2000 when the Tory farmers were blocking the Stanlow oil refinery protesting about fuel duty, was working in Kent at the time and our digs were quite close to a garage which was so quiet, a newspaper headline appeared in the afternoon about what was happening in the North West and it caused a full scale panic in Kent for fuel, was lucky as fuck to get back home it was so bad getting petrol.

No worries and cheers for the advice. Will pop to the local garage in the morning see if he’s got any and then I pass a number on way down before I hit berwick which are all a bit out the way so hopefully I can pick some up there. Sure I will be alright
