  • And as for this tiresome bollocks about pathways in our last two tournaments, do people not realise theres a reason we got those pathways? We avoided groups of death becasue we won every single game i

  • Fuck me we lose one game without a full strength team against a team of shit houses who shithoused themselves half way through the last tournament and the knives are out. It was just one of them

  • Biggest cheers tonight were for the paper planes hitting the pitch. I’ve also learned that being close to Wembley as the crow flies means fuck all when it comes to the tube!   Anyway, 9th/10

And people wonder why we're still taking the knee.

In Scouseland is it not to make removing hubcaps easier?

Look up 1967.

We, being World Vup holders were beaten by them, at Wembley & the kitties invaded the pitch. Ten's of thousands of them. Breaking the crossbars & claiming to then be World Champions.

Wankers.

I prefer the Alan Rough debacle personally.

It's the way they think. The one's who actually do define everything by race. I took it that you were on about playing style.

I'm aware of this year's relative success. One swallow and all that.

Point stands.

Unlikely to matter though, as independence remains unlikely.

I have a chart that lists qualification for major tournaments for Scotland. Oddly, 'Did Not Qualify' is the most common entry.

Quite.

There's a noticeable absence of the Southgate detractors today.

I love Southgate and think done a remarkable job. Took us from a bunch of selfish pricks struggling to make it out group stages to proper world heavyweights with a united squad littered with superstars.

However I just have no confidence in him for those biggest of biggest games. That's where he will be ultimately judged.

Its a shame, if he had that big game magic he'd be our greatest manager by a long way and wed have won at least one tournament already. He just doesnt have it.

.....I fuckin hope he finds it.

Like this.

Just been something lacking at the very highest stage. A bit of belief and an ability to push home an advantage perhaps.

Becoming a bit to defensive and handing the opponent the initiative.

Fine lines, and maybe it has been the limits of the players that has led to not getting over the final hurdle, but you do feel a touch of reticence from the set up.

Wholeheartedly agree that I'd love to see England win a major competition, because the football in general is excellent.

The bizarre-est of the bizarre judgemental comments.

Ignore the patently obvious, in favour of some warped preconditioning.

Maybe you should have compared him to George Best! 😅

He just never had the experience of that at club level so he's basically learning on the job now

Mancini taught him a lesson big time in that final, whilst he'd won plenty of titles and trophies by then

It’s a valid debate.

The alternative argument, which I’m just on the side of is..

There’s less chance of success with the realistic alternatives. There’s a few foreigners who may have that big game mentality and experience of winning at that level.

But then you potentially miss out on a lot of the fantastic qualities that Southgate has brought to the squad; togetherness, loyalty, understanding the players, passion (albeit nicely understated) and the controversial one… he’s very good externally with media, vision, clarity. This also has clear internal benefits and buy-in with the players.

Then there’s English alternatives… well I can’t think of any who I’d rather have and would do a better job.

So a lot of these doubters had better be very careful what they wish for and need to be realistic and honest about how well Southgate has done/is doing.

Eddie Howe. Country mile.

Southgate out. I'd rather be average than swallow any more of the smug hypocrisy.

Me too. At Crystal Palace or somewhere.

Just in case that nice fellow Leither Matt thinks I'm having a pop, far from it.

You just have to realise that we have to give out a little because one day, they will actually win one against us and the torrent of abuse coming the other way will be spectacular.

This is something we should all put mechanisms in place to warn our great, great grandchildren about.

That had already been done before you.

Continued wumming attempts just become a bit tedious, and who knows, perhaps reflect true feelings.

Only you and your God know your true intent.

'An absence of Sothgate detractors'. OK, here you go.

It was a friendly. Albeit v the Scotchish. A chance to perform with flair & style, beat those wankers and find out about a few players. He brings on Maguire. Seriously.

Not playing for his club.

Hunkering down to keep his cash rather than play elsewhere.

Totally out of sorts, mentally as much as physically.

What more did he need to know about him ? What did he learn ? Why not look at others ? He's not going to be at (even) this level next year when it matters. Why play him now ? It gave the Scotch a boost, their fans a boost, nearly allowing them a lifeline.

Detract, detract, detract.

Wholeheartedly agree. There was no need to have him anywhere near the pitch. Whether he did it as a confidence boost thing? Nice and easy, 2 up, go and get some minutes? No idea but it was completely unnecessary

Guehi had had his best 45 mins by some distance and alongside Dunk had smothered their attacking intent. Better for all concerned if they had continued. Then bring Colwill on with half hour to go.

The jocks were absolutely flat. Ground was a library with the realisation they had been outclassed in that first half.

then suddenly Maguire comes on, they all start a bit of a pantomime, crowd gets up then bang they’re back in the game.

does a good job of protecting his players does GS but he chucked Maguire straight in to the line of fire tues

It wasn't the presence of slab head that xhanged their play. We'd stopped doing what we were in the first half, and helped them back into it a bit.

Of course the own goal then lifted them, but he wasn't playing up top where it had stopped sticking.

The attacking subs then gave the side more attacking impetus and we regained control.

That said, it is still pertinent to ask why stick with him, as he's not likely to be around too much longer. Time to try alternatives.

Nearly as memorable as Dean Crombie’s goal v Torquay in the Sherpa Van the day after 😀. My mate did both games, Hampden Saturday, Wembley Sunday, 2 historic wins.

We did both, best weekend of football ever.

Anyway, what is the date for the Australia friendly? Been waiting a long time for retribution for the Sven farce.
