Agree.

But we have no leader and Gilks was that last season.

Definitely keep Dixon in.

Dixon has on a few occasions come out and not got anywhere near the ball- perhaps a touch of inexperience. Beyond that he's been ok for me. Jussi was similar in his early days.

Not saying Dixon will go on to such heights but he can improve and get stronger.

There are bigger problems in all other areas.

I wouldn't have bet a penny on Jussi becoming the keeper he did in his early days, he certainly dropped more bollocks that Dixon has so far.

Gilks was a good voice however not good enough for this league

dixon is improving for me good signing

Dixon isn’t that young though is he had him down for being about 28 ?

Dixon is reasonable. Not a great keeper but a long way from our biggest problem.

He’ll certainly be ok while we are at this level

Don’t think Dixon is our biggest problem but can be improved upon. Just looked him up on Wikipedia and he’s 27, he looks about 18.

Still not old for a goalkeeper. Had a couple of dodgy moments this season but would rather upgrade in other departments first

Top support today & the fans deserved better. If Pompey had a decent striker we'd have been 3 down before half time, and Pompey were an average side.  Ref gave us F all (again); but truth is we were ok for 10/15 mins in the first half and out of ideas thereafter. The subs put us even more on the backfoot instead of bringing a difference to the game. Nearly every time we got around their box we gave the ball away with a weak/ sloppy pass. Doyle needs a big fella up front to play off or he ain't scoring this side of new year..........

But so will the teams above us. All of those who fancy their chances.

I’m with Jules - again, Dixon does nothing for me. Looks too short. Doesn’t command his area. Doesn’t look to be instilling confidence in his defenders.

I would have Gilks back in now - steady the ship. And he’d be captain.

Christ, even Santos is more of a worry for me than Dixon.

Any team that has a physical centre forward or target man and doesn't pump everything at Santos is missing a trick.

I'm not knocking him because he's doing a job but there's plenty of more pressing issues than the keeper.

We're definitely not the best team in the league anymore

Priority for a keeper is stopping it going in our goal

But, and this is why crellin was signed, evatt wants a footballing keeper

Dixon fits the bill

When you add in the fact that he doesn't fuck up regular, the notion he needs changing is madness

Bollocks

Dixon is down the list of issues

Nonsense. Confidence starts from the back. A talkative and confident presence in nets calms them in front of him

Evidence A - last season when Grandad went in nets

Dixon distributes well and is an alright shot stopper but he doesn’t impose himself on the defence like Gilkes (and our 2 CB’s aren’t talkers - see IE’s own comments on Rico), nor does he inspire confidence.

Just cos there’s other issues doesn’t make the GK role unimportant; especially when we create fuck all. I was told that wasn’t important last week on here too 👀👀

Would love to see Santos, Aimson and Johnston together as a back 3. Or even Baptiste in there somewhere.

Good teams always have a solid defence that they build on top of. At the moment we’re leaky and teams seem to be scoring against us even when they’re not playing well.

Feel like Evatt will try one more time against Crewe playing 4-2-3-1 then he has to change something if we don’t win that, for me.

So, a bad fail today, not a good start with your argument then…

Correct. Built promotion on the back of god knows how many 1-0 wins

Back at hotel now. Good weekend despite the result.

Great effort from the fans, kept with the team all the way.

Speaking to their fans after the game, they didn’t think Portsmouth played well and never thought they were going to score, it took a lucky, fortuitous effort for them to break the deadlock.  They said we looked pretty without any conviction up front.

We’re in a rut at the moment, I was hoping the Gillingham comeback would have been a turning point, but we are not there yet. I do believe we are better than this recent set of results, but on reflection there have just been too many setbacks for a small squad that’s lacking in-depth quality.

Players and manager can be questioned on their performances and decision making recently, but overall I’ve no qualms with what we are doing and how we are going about it. It doesn’t need an overhaul or reset on what we are doing, just keep working hard on the training ground and keep a trust and belief in each other and our philosophy to help us through this difficult period.

Then come January, we can look at an increase/change in personnel in some areas of the squad to bolster our armoury for the 2nd half of the season.

Keep the faith

Jesus Julie I held you in a higher regard than pointing at the keeper

I’m not ‘just’ pointing at the keeper am I?
Look at my previous posts as a whole

Let’s not get it our of context

That’s what Casino would like though

As that’s how he argues on here

I don’t think he’s good enough if we want to hit the top end of League 1

Thats where we’re aiming right?

If we don’t get there I’m hardly ripping up my ST, but it’s worth a comment

If you disagree fine, tell me why?

Whereas Grandad has been spectacular in keeping them out when he's played!

One shouts far more, one is more agile and doesn't appear to have aged a decade during the summer.

We definitely need a leader in there, but that needn't be a keeper any more than a centre half.

Not one of our team is completely commanding in his position, but that's just where we are at the moment.

I’m not clamouring for Gilkes back in, I’m saying there are similarities between now and early last season when Crellin was in.

However, Imo Dixon is a non-league standard keeper. You may not agree but I’m not for shifting on that unless he improves 🤷🏽 Soz

last season our season started in jan

its only just helloween

see what santa brings in jan

COYWM

Missed their goal for a piss so I’ll hold my hands up if incorrect but was he really at fault for it? Sometimes looks a bit dicey when he’s complacent when the ball comes to him, but I wouldn’t put him in the top ten of issues at the minute. If Gilks was a year or two younger then great but he isn’t so crack on.
