Dr Faustus Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 What we having? Sister in law (modest handful) and her fella split, in-laws in France, so it's just the five of us at home. If I'm honest, I can't really be arsed; it's an early Sunday dinner, and will have all the fannying around without the extra gifts and booze. Anyway, kids want turkey. They didn't have mash last year, and tbf I didn't miss it; however they insist. The wife usually asks for gammon, and that's my usual contribution to a family meal. I'm looking forward to making gravy, semifredo etc in advance. Go forth good folk of WWays; inspire me with your festive fayre Quote

Whitestar Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 3 meats, turkey ( breast roast roll) from Morrisons, not cheap but nice and no waist. Pork, probably leg roast circa £8. Gammon, probably from tesco, again £7-8. Plenty left over for barms on boxing Day. Stuffing recipe is one we saw on a tv cookery show about 15 years ago by a female chef, name i can't remember but i think its still on the bbc website. Mushy peas made from them old fashioned soak overnight batchelers. Carrots are a tom kerridge recipe. Red cabbage, (frozen from lidl) if available. Roasties, home made. Sprouts, only me likes em. Yorkshire's? NO WAY. Little sausages with bacon, love them. Gravy??? Maybe buy some. Quote
Dr Faustus Posted December 7, 2021 Author Posted December 7, 2021 Might do yorkies as a starter with a little beef and gravy. Gammon is ace for cold cuts to gorge on throughout the day Quote

Not in Crawley Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Me and the Mrs have a nice quiet one, no need to go crazy. All bought and done back in Sept. Mainly a posh roast with some cheese ordered in and some decent red wine. Kids are round on boxing day and we'll have a buffet or a takeaway. One day chill and then up north to the folks. Happy days. I've finally stopped the whole spending Xmas day at your ex wife's, its fucking odd, I don't like it and it stresses me out. The kids don't mind one bit. Quote
Spider Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Family get together, I just get pissed. Mushy Peas. Fucking nora Quote

deane koontz Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Rather have a Kebab than a slightly edited Sunday dinner. Might make my demands known this year. Tbf I'm normally that pissed i'd eat lobby and it wouldn't register. Quote
little whitt Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Mushy Peas you may as well have a GOBLIN there are 3 Meats in that Fuck Knows What 3 Quote
Winchester White Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 I make two types of stuffing, one normal with sausagemeat and one with plenty of onion with most of the chicken juices (non of us are a fan of turkey) to make a kind of stuffing sauce. Nannas old recipe. The kids insist on yorkshire puds too so I make my own and I try and swerve mash if I can. Quote
Escobarp Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Turkey and goose at the outlaws. Hoping covid surges and we get locked down Quote

I stopped when we split up. You’re right, it is odd. Christmas dinner is just like any other Sunday dinner but with Turkey. No need to stress out. It’s one of the easiest meals to make. If you’ve got guests, plenty of booze. If you cock it up, they won’t know. 🦃🍷🥃 Quote
