Xmas Dinner

What we having?

Sister in law (modest handful) and her fella split, in-laws in France, so it's just the five of us at home. If I'm honest, I can't really be arsed; it's an early Sunday dinner, and will have all the fannying around without the extra gifts and booze.

Anyway, kids want turkey. They didn't have mash last year, and tbf I didn't miss it; however they insist. The wife usually asks for gammon, and that's my usual contribution to a family meal. I'm looking forward to making gravy, semifredo etc in advance. Go forth good folk of WWays; inspire me with your festive fayre

Adults will be too half cut before dinner, you could just half cook it, they'll love it.

And if they don't, there is always the half block of mexicana.

FUCK OFF YOU COCK 😘

I never do. Me and my mam nailed a bottle of port one Christmas evening. I reckon I contemplated suicide the next day 476 times, If I  could have lifted my head off the pillow it would have gone in the noose

Village has its faults for sure. But there will be no sight of mushy peas on any plates. And more importantly roast potatoes on all plates.

Mushy peas though.

Woke up this morning still fuming at last nights spineless shit show.  Checked in on the Ashes and that can feck off too.

It all paled into insignificance though when I read this thread.  "I dont like roast potatoes" - feckin ell!

I’ve rang in sick

I told them about the peas

they understood.

What about the spuds? Surely it’s a toss up which is worse.

I’m in denial about that.

I simply refuse to believe it.

Mushypeagate could well go down in Wways folklore.

I'm making garlic and rosemary roast potatos to go with tea today. Proper ones with goose fat and everything. No smash in this house.

Some things you should just keep to yourself.

@WhitestarIs the soaking of the peas an old Xmas Eve tradition? We normally just watch a filum and give the kids be Xmas PJ's

I've woken up and walked into the roast potato revelation.

Not sure how to react.

How can you like chips but not roast potatoes

They sound lovely.

Some herbert will be along shortly to say they'd be better with brown sauce or sommat.

I didn’t have Cas down as one of them, thought he might be a bit odd with the abba addiction and only ever seeing 30 films but was willing to look past it.

My middle daughter doesn't like spuds. She's not a picky eater either on the whole.

“I don’t like roast potatoes” must be the most ludicrous statement ever posted on here.

And Mounts has been posting in the politics thread for years.

Some going, that.

Nah mushy peas is much worse than not liking roast potatoes.

In fact there's a few I know other than my daughter who shun them.

OK, I can just...just about wrap my head around

1) People buying Meciana cheese as something you put out after a meal

2) mushy peas at Christmas. On the basis that everyone - and I mean everyone of us - as Christmas traditions that may seem odd to others, and as my other half said after I described this meal said, "I bet they have a cracking Christmas day." Each to their own.

But a Boltonian not knowing what a whist pie is.

No.

Nope.

Not having it.

It sounds like something that ceased to exist in the 70s

Ill get one next time I go to Carrs but I feel like they'll probably laugh at me

"we haven't had that pie here since.. 1969"

Love a whist pie, but not a massive fan of roast potatoes.

They had them in August when I was last up, so I reckon you'll be fine.
