  • I just want my lad to witness a promotion. Don't really care what happens or who plays for us after that. I definitely will in the future, but the absolute focus has to be to get out of this mind-numb

  • I disagree. His BWFC years were some of his greatest and happiest of his career. His latest SSN documentary piece highlighted this, as does countless footage of his wonder, his PFA nominatio

Started as a CB I think but banged a few goals when played as a striker so stayed there. Warhurst Similar

Did he? I always thought he turned up as a target man centre forward.

I was meaning his career - no, for us, always up front I think

Hearing rumours that 6 weeks might be very optimistic here pal 👀

Is it better info than your last source

There can be no question we have been desperately unlucky with central defence. If Toal and Santos are out by my reckoning we've four injured (Johnston and Forrester being the other two) and one on international duty. No team could cope with that and it happened last Spring too.

Is there any criticism to be made despite in the face of all that rotten luck? If there is one it's that IE is on record as saying he wants defenders who can play in more than one position. That's largely fine but for that central role in a three you need a big powerful lad/a specialist in the traditional style, albeit these days with the ability to play a bit. By relying purely on Toal and Santos we were always going to be in the crap if they were both out at the same time. Johnston can do it, MJ stood in there last year. But we've nowt like that available other than Toal/Santos.

It could be said we've not got the right balance of central defenders in terms of variety/type and we've left ourselves a bit exposed. However, I'm relucant to say that loudly because nobody can deny our luck 2024 so far has been dogshit.

Let's hope they're both OK. If not we need quick moves in the market.

Can't have expected so many injuries in one position. Certainly can't have a squad large enough to accommodate that level of injury in every position.

It's going to be a difficult couple of weeks presumably.

Was that the day you were begging for money to get in ? 😂😂

Other centre half got sent off , first attack Forest went long , Heskey cleared like a proper defender, then they kept it on the floor. He was nowhere near anything.

Yes it was, decided to travel last minute, no ticket, ticket office only took cash. Thanks for the sub. 👍 Although might have been better going straight home. 🤣

IE on Santos: “Not great, he has got a slight tear behind his calf. It is in a position which makes it a little bit more complicated than it ordinarily would be.”

Quote

IE on Toal: “It is not straightforward tendinopathy like we thought, but we are hopeful Eoin can carry on."

Evatt also revealed that Will Forrester is set to return to training tomorrow.

One or two weeks best case scenario for Santos

well, he only slows things down

oops, thought i was on ben for a minute

Still comfortably in squad registration rules.

For league one, goalkeepers and u21s don’t need to be registered, so that excludes - Baxter, Coleman, Ashworth, Taylor, Ramsay

Def: Santos, Toal, Forrester, Jones, Iredale, Johnston, (Taylor) = 6 registered

Wingback: Williams, Cogley, Ogbeta, (Ashworth, Ramsay, Matheson) = 3 registered

MF: Thomason, Sheehan, Dempsey, Morley, Maghoma, Mendes Gomes = 6 registered

FWD: Charles, Victor, Jerome, Bodvarsson, Nlundulu, Collins = 6 registered

That’s only 21 players even including Johnston and Nlundulu

We'll have the scenario I really didn't want Saturday. A defence without the experience and leadership of both Jones and Santos.

Could be a goal fest! Let's hope its no longer than a month without Santos.

Good to know that, cheers 👍

Not that we need to think about it right now (or at all since it’s the club’s responsibility) but rules are different next year if we’re in the Championship:

under 21 players don’t need to be registered but u21 loan players DO.

Also goalkeepers need to be registered in the championship.

Appreciate that being without Santos on Saturday isn't ideal but the cupboard looks much less bare after today. Caleb Taylor is a big central defender of the kind we really needed for depth and seeing someone with his profile in that squad is a real bonus, young though he is.

A backline of  JDC or Ramsay at RB; Taylor, Toal, Iredale and Ogbeta at LB should be OK. The big bonus is Forrester being close to contention.

Hopefully we can crack on now.

agreed

jones was a big miss in the play off games

And no matter what people say, nobody replaces what Santos does for us.

We might have bodies, and we might end up being sound at the back, but we will play differently because we just can’t leave anyone else so exposed like we do with Rico (unless Taylor is as big / fast / strong / good - in which case we’re onto a winner!)

Conor Carty has torn his ACL while on loan at Doncaster, he's only been there a few weeks.

Yes, pushed over an advertising board unnecessarily by a Bradford player apparently and not even booked. Really sad for the lad just as he was getting that experience needed to come back and fight for a place. Let’s hope he recovers quickly, it’s much more treatable nowadays than it was.

I just hope with the injury and absence situation now clearing up we don’t see the loan players pushing out the likes of Toal, Forester, Jones and JDC? We’ve gone from famine to feast in a week in defence meaning some won’t even get on the bench let alone start.

Pretty sure it won't happen immediately, today, apart from Taylor as needs must.

Evatt is big on loyalty, processes and trust so it'll take time before the newbies are starting together.

But it won't bother me in the long run who is in the starting 11. We'll need a good squad to get promotion.

The bench is an interesting debate as each week there will be 3/4 not in the squad who might consider themselves starters!

I want the best 11 every game, couldn't give a toss if they are loans or not.

Theyll all have a part to play, 19 games in 13 weeks is a slog

Hard not to agree with that, whatever and whoever it takes to ensure promotion which must be everybody’s aim but it’s going to be a tough one for Ian leaving players out, loans and our own and maybe not even on the bench. 🥴

With two games most week I imagine anyone not selected one game will be told to rest up and get themselves ready for the next one on Tuesday, I bet not many will be left out of the squad for consecutive games.

And anyway we're talking as if we won't get injuries and suspensions, as we know to our cost the size of the squad and the number of players available on a given day are two different things!
