Brand Evatt

We had a decent thread a while back discussing Evatt’s philosophies and approach to the game (think it got tainted and pulled)

So not a bad time to start it up again at the beginning of the season.

In the main he’s done a fantastic job. A minority lost patience round about Xmas/New Year in both seasons.

But surely now he has the large backing of the majority of fans and the brand he talked about implementing here is now well and truly established.

Good article above highlighting how he’s using Sport Science to get the squad performing to it’s optimum level.

A young, meticulous, intelligent and passionate individual, who we are very lucky to have leading our club.

I hope he gets what he deserves with promotion to the Championship.

All the analysis and data aside, I just don't get how the board can seriously be sat thinking anything else but that change needs to happen. And if they think that Evatt can be the one to change

Talking of which… Johnston made it pretty clear what his thoughts were of Dion yesterday. Clearly they’re not going to be best mates on the pitch when he’s playing for the opposition, but he went out of his way on a few occasions to make his feelings known.

Since JD's managed it at the first time of asking, thought it worth a look at Evatt's record in this division when playing away at a ream in the top 4 ...

In 20 matches we managed 2 wins; Barnsley 3-0 when they had a man sent off and 1-0 at Port Vale early last season (they were 4th at the time). In half the games we failed to score. We averaged 0.65 points per game. So ... 10% win ratio.

I'll get back to you when I've worked out Julian's win % 😁

Edit: Correction - it's 2 wins in 19, not 20.

(if anyone's arsed I'll post the full list)

I'm not having Port Vale, they were relegated!  Never a genuine top 4 team, I went to that and never a feel of it being a 6 pointer or a "big" game, we played fine (Forrester again!) but they were awful.  For balance, I don't think anyone had Rotherham away recently as a game against bottom half fodder either, that was always a tough game.

I think Barnsley is the only big away league game IE won, and as you say they had 10 men for about 80 minutes.  The only "big" home game I can recall winning, other than Sunderland 6-0 a long time ago, is Derby in Sep 2023 when they were mid table and played with 10 men after an incorrect sending off.

They were top 4 at the time.

Of course overall we've been pants in these games, but if a team is there at the time, they are there on merit.

Can't do anything other than beat them.

Not like you to be selective! 🤣

His record in the big games was absolute shite wasn't it.

We move on. 😁

They definitely had words a few times, too.

Well I'll be selective again and make a distinction between genuine top 4 or 6 teams and those that are there fleetingly, especially if they got relegated!  We all know the games IE has a problem with and that was never one of them.

We were 3rd or 4th in the championship under Parky after beating Birmingham.  We were also a poor team and got relegated, I bet Sheff U still talk about coming here and beating a promotion challenger 😀

Being selective allows me to distinguish between the significance (and joy) of Collins winner at Huddersfield with the one he scored from a yard v Villa kids.  Others will treat those goals the same statistically, each to their own.  At least we kept Huddersfield's "20 goal a season" striker quiet yesterday!

He did and there were a couple of occasions where there was a bit of a scuffle (after Schon clattering their lad for his booking was one) where Johnston grabbed Dion and it wasnt in a friendly ‘I’ll take you out of this situation’ type - he made a beeline for him

We noticed it early on when I think he had a bit of afters after a strong challenge so were watching it closely and he definitely wasn’t friendly.

Aye, Johnston seemed to have a bit of beef with Charles for sure.

Maybe Dion shagged his Mrs too?

Interview with Jones may have shed some light.

They decided not to talk to him beforehand, and put friendships on hold.

During the game, I reckon any player would want to stop a recently left teammate from succeeding. Maybe a bit extra aggression and determination.

Worked 'n all.
