The only real influence he would have would be in creating an atmosphere of urgency through public messaging. Which I think was exactly the right thing to do given that people were literally trying to burn asylum seekers to death at the time and we had riots all over the country.

My wife had about 4 years left on her passport when we got married, she didn't bother to change it - we just booked under the name on the passport. (That was 20 years ago though...)

Mrs finally changed her passport to her married name in 2021. We got married in 2006 so she spent 15 years booking stuff in her maiden name. Never an issue

Certainly not millions. For a start there is a giant elephant in the room regarding such a proposition.
