OK - so this is where the critical analysis comes in. He's right if you ask the question I posed. 

However. As has been previously stated on here many times. Economic migrants and asylum seekers are disproportionately male and disproportionately young. To get an accurate answer the the question - you'd need a similar British control group as a sample. 

Otherwise we're comparing young, male migrants/asylum seekers with 90 year old Doris' from Dorset.

Let me ask it that question and see what it thinks.

OK - so here was my follow up question based on my concerns about the answer it gave. Unfortunately the 'control group'  isn't a 'like for like' comparison. AI is just like anything else. You still need to interrogate the data it provided. It very much follows the GIGO principle.

Everyone is capable of doing critical analysis - but it's the kind of thing that only really gets 'taught' at uni, sadly. And it's much easier not to fall into traps when you've been taught, and practiced it. Just like any skill. 

Personally - in this day and age I think we should be teaching kids how to do it from primary school onwards. 

There are probably loads of other issues if I thought about it properly - but I'm on my lunch break and I don't have time. 

Basically - decent, well researched data is often inconclusive and hardly ever makes a decent headline would be my message.

I think that’s would work against immigrants. If you’re using only a certain age group of Brits then that will bring the conviction rate down.

No - if you compare foreigners to a similar UK cohort (ie skewed towards younger men) then the UK cohort would likely increase and be similar (if not surpass) the levels of crimes commited by foreigners. Unless you think I'm missing something?

Let’s not deny the existence of a problem though . Important that we have honest conversations about it.
